Introducing Owen Michael • Anchorage Newborn Photos

Newborns

Owen is the newest Savvy Newbie in Anchorage, and I’m VERY excited to show him off. He and all of his cuteness are on the cover of the August issue of First Time Parent Magazine! FTP Magazine is a fairly new digital magazine that offers tips and tricks that will help first time parents maximize the enjoyment and development of their precious little ones. I can only imagine how helpful a handy electronic magazine like that would be, after bringing home a brand new baby for the first time. And it just so happens, that is just what Owen’s parents are… first time parents here in Anchorage! Savvy Images Newborn Photo Magazine Cover - Anchorage Newborn Photos

They get to learn ALL about those fun and exciting new world changing baby happenings. I have no doubt that the two of them are already pros by now. At exactly one week and one day old, he was a very serious, but extremely handsome little guy! It worked out great that he was the perfect little model for a smart and snazzy new magazine cover. His mom and I absolutely love just how smart he already looks. ;-) This baby boy has to have a bright future ahead of him!

At home his nursery is decorated with a cute nautical theme, so the little sailor hat was an absolute must for his session. He pressed his little feet together all on his own, and they were just precious to photograph. And his priceless little POUT is beyond words! I cannot WAIT to get in the ginormous black and white canvas that his parents ordered from his session!

Introducing Ava Sue • Anchorage Newborn Photos

Newborns

Little Miss Ava Sue… where do I start!? How about with her big brother and sister! We started her newborn session out with the primary goal of capturing an amazing sibling shot of these three together. Most of you can imagine how difficult that may be to get three little ones to sit still for more than five seconds, and simultaneously photograph them?! Big brother was strategically persuaded into wearing a white shirt, being bare footed outside, and carefully holding his new tiny sister. And even though big sister wasn’t really sure what to think about someone else getting all the baby attention, it was clear that they both simple adore her. The session started out with a bang, and we managed to capture some MAJOR cuteness for the .5 seconds that they sat still and paid attention to us or their sister. We even managed to get a quick double head kiss!! SUCCESS..lol..!! Now about the rest of the session… Little Ava made us work for those beautiful photos! I mean serious, what is happening, please cooperate, I NEED beautiful photos WORK. You could never tell in the photos below that she was such a strong willed and alert little angel. But that’s okay! Patience was definitely key during her session, and I am SO glad to say that it definitely paid off!! Mom was a trooper, and we are both beyond please and excited about her photos. I know both her and dad with cherish these photos when those three little angels are running circles around them. It will happen, and I hope I’m there to take beautiful photos of them doing so one day! Savvy Images Anchorage Newborn photographer

The Hefner Maternity Session • Destination Maternity Photos

Kids, Maternity

I am SO excited about posting these maternity photos on the blog today! When I went to WPPI in Las Vegas for a week at the beginning of March, I just HAD to schedule a maternity session while I was in town! And I was dead set that this said maternity session take place in the DESERT. Luckily, I have a friend who lives in Las Vegas, because she posted a quick little ad for me on her Facebook page. Thanks to her, I quickly found an awesome, beautiful and FUN momma that HAD to have beautiful maternity photos! I was a tad bit nervous scheduling a session on top of ALL my other workshop madness (knowing how exhausted I would be by that point), but I’m SO glad to say that everything worked out perfectly! Not only did my hot Vegas momma ROCK her session, but she had a PRECIOUS little girl nicknamed Chip Chip to add some MAJOR cuteness also. All little Chip wanted to do was run around in the desert checking things out, WITHOUT her headband…lol. That’s just something you have to expect with little one’s her age, but who can blame her?! She had no interested in taking photos, and there are a few cute photos from their session that I just had to include in this post. Regardless of their age, things usually never go as planned, and that’s okay! We still managed to capture some really cute moments because mom and especially dad (sporting little Chip’s headband at one point), were such great sports! I love photographing fun families, and it’s clear that Chip is going to be a really fun big sister. I am very eager to get their album designed and ordered in the near future!! Introducing Katherine Ann • Anchorage Newborn Photos

Newborns

This beautiful petite little lady was just as angelic as could be, but don’t be fooled… Katherine may be tiny, but she is a VERY determined TINY little lady. She made us work really hard for the precious photos we got. After reviewing her gallery with her mom yesterday, we quickly decided that it was absolutely worth all the work! She was full of sassy little expressions, and seriously… just look at her precious little lips!! Thank goodness she has a protective big brother to keep a good eye out on her as she grows up. When she cried during her session, Thomas was so concerned about her. He just HAD to make sure she was okay! It was really cute, and I LOVE to see such a caring quality in siblings. He was a little shy, but SO eager to take photos with her. At five days young Katherine was incredibly alert during her session. We even managed to capture her big beautiful eyes. I cannot wait to photograph these two again, so I can see how they grow into their cute little personalities. I have no doubt it will be an overload of cuteness!!Anchorage Newborn Photos

Timing and Tips for Perfect Maternity Photos

Maternity

Pregnancy is an incredibly fascinating journey. I came across a really creative/cute video on Buzzfeed.com this morning that reminded me of this completely obvious fact. I just had to share it with you guys since the timing was perfect with this blog post about the timing for Perfect Maternity Photos!

The female body grows and transforms to BRING a precious little LIFE into this world (with dad’s help of course, haha). As many times as I photograph growing bellies and brand new babies, that is still mind boggling and amazing to me. Maybe that’s why I enjoy photographing beautiful bellies so much. It’s an extremely special time that passes all too quickly, and the beginning of something brand new and perfect.

Savvy Images Maternity Photo TimingOne of the questions I get most often is “When is the best time to take Maternity photos?”. There is no completely right or wrong answer to this question, as it varies drastically for each individual woman. From her body, to the growth of her baby, to her personal preference. Over the years I have found that the beginning of the third trimester, and more specifically their 7th month seems to have worked well for most of my beautiful moms. They are big enough to actually LOOK pregnant and embrace their bellies, but not big enough to feel miserable and bloated. Repeat mothers tend to show a little sooner than those that haven’t had children already, as well as if she’s expecting multiple babies is definitely a major factor to keep in mind also. If one of my moms is unsure about what to expect of her pregnancy, I personally prefer to err on the side of caution when it comes to scheduling her Maternity session. We can always reschedule and push the session back a bit to allow more belly growth if needed. Becoming a mother is a fabulous thing, and that’s just what I want each of my mothers to feel like when taking their Maturity photos…FABULOUS. Any mother would agree that there is a fine line there, and I would rather take her photos when she’s a bit too small, than a bit too big and uncomfortable. Plus, if you wait too long to take her maternity photos, you run the risk of missing the opportunity all together, if her little one making their brand entrance to the world early!Savvy Images Maternity Photo Timing

The timing of when to take Maternity photos is key, but another important thing to consider is your photographer! When you probably have a gazillion other things on your mind, you want to invest in a photographer that clearly, absolutely, without a doubt knows AND cares about what they are doing. Your time is limited, you’re hormonal, you’ve recently gained lots of extra weight, you’re exhausted, you probably STILL have an adorable nursery to complete, and you CANNOT wait for your little one’s arrival… You don’t want to have to worry about things like your photographer putting you in some uncomfortable, unflattering pose in front of a cluttered background! The female body is beautiful, but we all know that there are angles that do it NO justice, and even more so with a big baby belly. Again, it’s very important to me that all my Mothers-to-be to FEEL and LOOK fabulous in their Maternity photos! A huge part of having great confidence during your session (in addition to the timing) is being fully prepared for it, and informed on what to expect. To make sure of that, all my Savvy Moms get an electronic Welcome Package with LOTS of helpful information before their session. It includes great information like what to wear. Your Maternity session is to capture photos of you and your beautiful belly. Crazy patterns can potentially be a distraction, as well as loose/baggy clothes. You want to be sure to wear something a bit fitted to show your baby bump off. I believe that a great combination of classy and comfortable is key, and you can always add accessories to jazz up your look if you’d like. As your photographer, I do everything I can to set your session up to be a success, INCLUDING brainstorm cute/meaningful shoot ideas! Whether we get together for tea, chat on the phone, or set up a private Pinterest board for session inspiration, I want to make sure we have lots of potential for a super unique AND meaningful Baby Belly Session!Savvy Images Family Maternity Photo Session Timing Anchorage

Double Love • Twins Newborn Photos

Newborns

When this beautiful momma-to-be of TWINS contacted me about her maternity photos, my honey and I were about to take off to The Dominican Republic to get married! Timing was tight, but I just HAD to make her session happen for her before we left. Amidst each of our chaos, we managed to get her and her proud daddy-to-be into the Savvy Images studio one snowy evening! It was a freezing downpour outside, but I was so excited to take photos for them. I just love the fact that she loves teal, AND sports it very nicely. We quickly established that we would also use teal in their twins newborn session once Austin and Alan arrived! It makes me extremely happy when a maternity and newborn session compliment each other so well. Once the cuties made their grand debut, we got their session scheduled, and I’m not going to lie… I was actually a tad bit nervous! Not because they were twins, but because their momma warned me multiple times that her precious little Alana was going to be a major handful for us! I must say that I ALWAYS expect a challenge during my newborn sessions, but rarely does a mother ever warn me to expect one! Haha. Her nosey little angel did run the show that evening, but she ultimately did great for us! I was BEYOND ecstatic to get adorable, cuddly photos of her and her brother together when they were all cute and tiny! I say that because, when we met again for their Viewing Session, it was astonishing how much each of them had grown in such a short period of time!! I just love to see my little Savvy newbies growing up all healthy and strong! It will be priceless for all of them to look back on their newborn photos in twenty-something years to see Austin become a handsome young man that’s almost twice the size of Miss Alana. At least mom and dad will know that she’ll be well looked after! ;-)

Identical Twins!! • Anchorage Newborn Photos

Newborns

I was beyond excited when the mother of these precious little Identical Twins contacted me to take their newborn photos shortly after they were born! A fun little side note, is that their mom is ALSO an identical twin. What are the chances of that?! It was extremely cool to capture their matching little cuteness while they were still teeny tiny! I would like to introduce Ashley Sloan and Sophia Michele!! It was great to have all their cute little newborn perfection in the Savvy Images Studio!! Little Miss Ashley was very alert during their session and kept us on our toes. She knew there was a party going on (aka their first modeling job), and she wanted to know just WHAT was taking place! Haha. She did great when she was near her sister Sophia though. It was so sweet to see her relax once she got cozy next to her sister. That is clearly where she belongs, and we should have KNOWN better. Cutie Sophia was all smiles, and just as laid back as she could be! Having natural, beautiful, black & white photos of her angels was important to mom, so of course we had to make that happen. The love and connection between twins is such an amazing thing to witness, and it’s even more amazing to capture that in their newborn photos. It is an absolute treat to watch my Savvy Newbie’s personalities develop over time! I already look forward to photographing these two again once they get a little older. With their mother’s fantastic genes, there is NO doubt that they will definitely be beautiful young ladies!! I’m super excited.. Mom doesn’t realize (just yet) that she’s getting a custom SavvyApp with her precious cuties newborn photos to share with her family and friends!! They will all be able to save it to their smart phones, and show them off anytime (with or withOUT an internet connection). How cool is that!? I just love spoiling my clients! ;-)Savvy Images Anchorage Twin Newborn Photos

Introducing Callum Wylie • Anchorage Newborn Photos

Newborns

This little guy is growing up fast, but I’m still excited about officially introducing him and his awesome family!! Seriously, they are SO much fun, and I’m blessed to have such awesome clients! His mom came to me with a fun “before and after baby” idea she’d seen online. Not only do I think we nailed it, but we all had SO much fun actually taking the photos. That is a HUGE plus in my opinion! We took the first silly family photo during their maternity session, and then after Callum made his grand entrance into the world, we took the second photo at the beginning of his newborn session. I LOVE that they wanted to include the entire family in some fun photos! This handsome little guy was a dream to photograph. He was alert during the first part of his newborn session, but posed perfectly for my camera…I think mom and dad may have a little model on their hands?! All his little baby details were beyond precious, and I don’t believe he even cried ONCE.. Just amazing! That certainly happens, but not very often at all. Because we did the session in their home, we were even able to carefully pose him (with mom very close by), in a cool piece of artwork. I always love using personal items in newborn sessions when possible, to add an incredibly personal touch. In twenty years he will be able to look back at these photos, see that piece of artwork in his parent’s living room, and then realize just how small his cutie booty actually was! A Bittersweet Goodbye

Pets

I have to warn you that this is such a sad but incredibly sweet story about a loving family’s pet, and their recent bittersweet goodbye. A fellow incredibly talented photography friend and I had plans to go shooting not too long ago, but we had to cancel them because his world was quickly turned upside down. One of his two furbabies slipped on the ice in their yard and broke her femur. When he and his wife took Luci (their 10 year old black and white Husky rescue puppy) to the vet, they unexpectedly discovered that their healthy little girl had cancer. Incredibly heartbreaking news. It was taking over her body, and weakening her bones. They were faced with one of the most difficult decisions that they’ve ever had to make. As any good parent would, they didn’t want to see their baby suffer. When he told me what happened, I offered to take photos of the four of them as a family right away. I wasn’t sure how he would feel about that, but I thought it wouldn’t hurt to offer. They had a couple days to say goodbye, and his wife decided that they wanted me to come and take photos of them. After ten years and MANY photos later, the four of them never had a photo taken together! They had planned on scheduling a portrait session in the spring, but time didn’t allow for that. If you happen to follow my blog or Instagram, you know how much I HATE cancer, and how much I LOVE Furbabies. I knew that it would be an incredibly hard session to photograph, but I thought it was incredibly important for them to have photos as a family. Their furbabies were beautiful, SO sweet and very curious about this new person in their home. After some sniffing, I was glad that they welcomed me with lots of kisses! We all held it together very well, but there was an unmentioned ache in everyone’s heart. Even Luci’s sister Apun knew something was going on. She was also a rescue puppy that joined their family very soon after Luci. As a puppy, she was snow white, so appropriately so, her name means ‘snow’ in Yupik. She was a sassy little gal, and she was being protective of her sister. She cracked us up with her cute little whiny noises! I can’t even explain how cute they were together. All four of them. Those furbabies were definitely loved, and it was VERY clear that they loved their mom and dad right back. We did the session in their living room so Luci was comfortable. I’m SO glad that we did, because we were able to take photos of them on THEIR favorite. Yes of course, a couch just for the girls! (I told you there were loved) Their neighbors call Luci and Apun the neighborhood watch dogs, because they sit up on the back of their couch and keep an eye on everything, out their big living room window. Seriously SO cute! It makes me smile thinking about the great stories they told about Luci, and knowing how much joy she brought to their hearts over the last ten years. I absolutely hate that they had to say goodbye to their baby girl, but I’m very honored to capture the last wonderful moments together.Savvy Images Pet Photographer

Introducing Kasen Campbell • Anchorage Newborn Photos

Newborns

There has been a lot of catching up, as well as exciting plans in the works over here at Savvy Images!! You may remember cute little Kasen’s sneak peek from last spring. This little guy was born three weeks early weighing in at a whopping 4 pounds and 10 ounces, and spent lots of time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). I can say one thing with certainty… this handsome mini man is a fighter! Though he was a bit gassy during his newborn session, he continues to make his parents very proud. Haha, it could have been worse. He put us to work, but we definitely captured some pretty precious photos for mom and dad. Including their first family photo with his fur-brother Presley! I can’t wait until he grows up to see how little his butt once was in his daddy’s baseball glove!! And I bet one day he’ll also play many great rounds of golf with his grandpa’s golf club. There is no doubt that dad will make sure Kasen is a great little sportsman!Savvy Images Newborn Photos Kasen

Ayden is ONE • Anchorage Baby Photography

Babies

Photographing this baby girl over the last year has been so much fun! Sassy ~ Sassy ~ Sassy!! I called it the first time I met her during her newborn session, and then shortly after that she made it even more apparent during her six month photo session. I’m so glad that I was right, because capturing all that sass in her photos is an absolute blast! Her mom wanted to do Ayden’s one year session at their brand new home, so it was the perfect opportunity to take some really fun photos where they get to hang out everyday. BUT, it’s not every day that you get to take photos with balloons in your bed, and smashing cake on mom’s nice marble kitchen counter! Just LOOK at those cute little pony tails!! In a dozen years or so, mom and dad will need to look back on her all her cute photos to remind themselves what a sweet little bundle of joy she was. I have a sneaking suspicion that Ayden will definitely keep them on their toes for years to come, and I look forward to capturing many more of their fun moments along the way.Anchorage Baby Photographer - Savvy Images
