An Intimate Maternity Session

In July this cute family announced they were adding twins to their future travel plans. Now I’m thrilled to show off their intimate maternity photos! You can view their announcement photos > HERE < if you missed those. We originally had very different plans for their maternity session, but Mom was unexpectedly restricted to bed rest. As they should have, our plans quickly adapted. I assured her that we would STILL be able to get some beautiful images of her beautiful double baby belly. That is just what we did.

We captured their maternity photos in the cozy comfort of their very own home. It can’t get any more personal than that. I absolutely love how unique their photos are, and how they very literally, capture this very special time in their lives. It doesn’t hurt they have a cool eclectic decor, collected from their many travels around the world. Even some of the books in the Little One’s ever-growing library are from Mom and Dad’s travels since finding out they were expecting. One thing I love about their home is they have their family photos aesthetically displayed ALL over their home. As you can see from the photos below, they even have a large canvas from their announcement photos in the kiddos nursery! I love seeing my client’s photos proudly showcased, as they should be.

Fall in love with FALL… the time has finally arrived! I absolutely love cozy sweater weather and seeing everyone’s updated family photographs online! The first time I captured this young lady’s smile was during her family photo session back in Alaska two years ago. You can check those photos out > HERE < if you missed them. The fall colors don’t last long there, but my GOODNESS they are stunning.

Fast forward a few years, and I was blessed with the opportunity to capture this beautiful Miss again, here in Texas! The seasons aren’t as dramatic here, but that’s okay. What we captured during her mini session was on point. She’s a stunner and now she has a handful of great yearbook photo Ad options. Her full length photo session will take place this coming spring and I’m so excited about it! You better believe we are already brainstorming fun ideas. ;-)

The time has come

Time… oh, the time! It flies by. These colorful bluebonnet photos were taken back in April for my Little Lady’s first birthday. I blinked and I may have taken a few much needed deep breaths. Now she is in ‘school’ and it is finally TIME for Momma to get back to WORK!! Just in TIME to schedule your fall photo sessions! What a magical word…lol. Is there every really a good time for that jazz??

If anyone understands just how busy life gets, it’s yours truly. After all, Scotty’s one year photos were spontaneously taken in a field, on the side of the road headed to spend a long weekend in Austin! It’s a bit embarrassed to admit, other than her cake smash photos and sewing the outfit she wore, there wasn’t much planning involved with her one year photo session. But again, time! Surviving your first year as a parent, you quickly learn to prioritize life and any remaining energy you may have. Thank goodness, everything worked out just perfectly. I could obsess over her chubba thighs and all her many little expressions! With Dad’s help and a minor detour, we were able to capture some beautiful images of our baby girls. These two have a funny little ‘I want to cuddle you – don’t touch me’ relationship. Haha, but of course we had to include her fur sister, Reis also!

Time is an incredibly precious commodity. The good news is, scheduling a photo session with Savvy Images is pretty darn easy! Traveling Twins…

Traveling Twins?!? That’s right Houston… this winter this well travelled couple are expecting the arrival of precious twins!! Believe it or not, they had to board a plane to New Zealand the very same day they found out they were pregnant! What a longggg flight to wrap their heads around all the excitement to come. From the beginning, they shared a special passion for travel, so it was only appropriate to announce their exciting news with a fun TRAVEL themed Pregnancy Announcement Mini Session!! The Momma-to-be started a travel blog called Always on Vacay and put their passion to work. Her blog is guide dedicated to travel, work, home and living a healthy lifestyle. Right up my alley! We met on social media because of our mutual interest in traveling. It didn’t take us long to figure out that we lived right down the street from each other. When she came to me with with her exciting news and announcement vision, I knew it was the perfect fit. I absolutely LOVE customizing my clients photos sessions, and just had to bring her unique idea to life! Especially because she wanted to include her first two (FUR) babes. They’re family also, and it’s clear they add quadruple the cuteness to their photos. ;-) Oh my goodness, traveling twins! I’m already so excited for their newborn photo session! Savvy Images Cake Smash One Year Baby Photos in Houston

A Homemade Cake Smash

Not long ago, we hit the BIG one year milestone and (of course) we celebrated by doing a super cute CAKE SMASH session! These sessions are rarely what Mom’s expect them to be. You never really know how your Little is going to react to the yummy, yet messiness of cake! Most babes are quiet shy tearing into their cakes and usually need a little help doing so from mom or dad. Every once in a while I come across one who tears into it with no shame! Scotty was somewhere in-between. At first she was way more interested in picking off and playing with the blue berries. With Dad’s guidance, she took a few bites, but decided she’d rather play the drums on her cake for a while. Haha. She shared a bit of her mess with her fur-sister, Reis (we allowed her to for a hot second). She checked out the flower cake topper, took a few more bites, then was over it. Knowing these sessions rarely happen as you’d like them to, I had zero expectations, and was very pleased by the curiosity and cuteness we captured.

I didn’t want her to have boatloads of sugar and get a tummy ache, so I decided to experiment with a little baking! When I say ‘experiment’, I am way serious. I don’t bake. Ever. My husband actually tried to talk me out of it. BUT (insert very proud Momma vibes here), I did, and we were ALL pleasantly surprised by the outcome! After scouring the internet, getting input from friends who had done the same, and consulting with my mother-in-law (who bakes often), I decided to try Fit Momma Real Food‘s No Sugar Banana Cake. You can find her recipe >>here<<. I really wanted a coral cake, so I used beet and orange peel juice to dye the cream cheese icing and whalaaa!! We had ourselves a sugar free, corn free, coral cake smash cake! Dad and I loved it so much, that we had no problem finishing up what she didn't finish! We even used the same cake for her actual first birthday party. I debated making cup cakes for her party guests, but quickly realized how many other party related items I still had to conquer by the weekend. Maybe next year!? A Beautiful Belly & Bluebonnets

I live and shoot in Texas now, so I absolutely HAD to take maternity photographs with a gorgeous momma surrounded by beautiful bluebonnets! After moving back to Texas late last summer, to see everyones beautiful (early summer) bluebonnet photos online, I prematurely conspired to make this session a reality. For months, I dreamt about stumbling across the perfect location, just as I had done in Alaska when I discovered an epic Fireweed field for a styled maternity session. Just as the timing of fireweed, you know about when to expect bluebonnets, but catching them at their peak is a little tricky. Especially being new to Houston, not knowing where all the great locations are.

Timing is everything, and it could not have been more perfect when this beautiful Momma-to-be reached out to me. Everything fell together great, even the last minute sneaky location, and all we needed was for Mother Nature to cooperate with our spontaneous plan. If only. She put up a bit of a fight and made the session a challenging one. Because this was a Maternity Mini Session, our time to capture all the beauty was very limited. The cloudy morning turned out to be a bright sunny day, all too fast, and the wind was crazy! Though there are many unsuccessful, wind blown images, in the end, the wind actually ended up working out great for us in several photos.

This stunning Momma was nervous about being in front of the camera. Lets be real, it’s awkward for just about any of us! But after the session, she was surprised how NOT awkward it was. I make sure to give all my mommas and clients a great deal of direction AND feedback during their session, so they’re not just left there to stand quietly in front of my lens. I let you know what looks good, we talk, sometimes I tell jokes, and I even make you laugh at yourself (in a good way, of course). My goal is to get you to relax, be as natural as possible, and (gasp) even enjoy taking photos! She said I was really good at letting her know just what to do, so I’ll call it a success! After all, she IS gorgeous, so she should definitely feel that way when in front of my camera. I’m SO happy we made this session happen. My Bluebonnet Momma has gorgeous photos of her beautiful bump, and I finally have Texas options for studio artwork, y’all!!

When Emery was ONE

Earlier this week baby Karson was featured on the Savvy Images blog, soooo I couldn’t resist showing off his big sister Emery’s one year photo session also! Even though her photos were taken WAY back in July of 2013, and she’s all big and grown up now. Just like her photos, Emery is FULL of fun and crammed packed with a BIG sassy little personality! Don’t let her beautiful baby blues fool you, she tore into her cute little birthday cake like nobody’s business. Out of all of my cake smash babies, I would venture to say that she conquered her cake like a champ (the key detail being > ALL on her own). Normally babies are a bit unsure of what to do and need a bit of guidance, but not this little beauty! First time eating cake… “I’ve got this Mom!” One year photo sessions are always so much fun. It’s like a mini explosion of a little personality. I absolutely love Working with families to customize a session based completely on their little Loves unique personality! I know mom will get a kick out of looking back at these photos several years later. It’s truly mind boggling how quickly babes turn into little kiddos right before your eyes!

How blessed is this precious family to be celebrating an entire year filled with Baby Karson cuteness!? His little heartbreaker eyes and pout are beyond adorable! And I can’t even handle just how much his big sister loves him. Seriously. Heart. Melting. Mom was inspired to have his one year photo session, a la natural, out in the great outdoors. When I discovered all the many cool features at the location she had in mind, I got giddy excited about taking their photos there. WG Jones State Forest worked out fantastic and a fun fact related to its name, is that Karson’s grandpa is the incredibly talented and late George Jones! Double meaning and even more variety, makes it a win for all!! I had to capture the crane by the lake and the ducks bathing themselves, right before we got started. The huge logs and little stumps made for perfect photo props, and all the many little pine cones were the perfect accent! Towards the end of his session, little Karson had enough. He was tired and cold and over it. Seeing his big sister comfort him was something I will never forget. So much love! I’m so glad I had the opportunity to capture all the cuteness for mom and dad to look back on in many years. Those two, they make beautiful babies! But lets be real. I am the one who is really blessed here. This was my second time working with this fun family. Loyal clients are my absolute favorite! Anyone that has followed my work for any amount of time, knows that if you have a furbaby, they are absolutely considered family here at Savvy Images! I not only allow your furry loves to participate in your family photo session, I ENCOURAGE it. Our pets bring so much joy and are such a huge part of our lives, I couldn’t imagine NOT including them. Every now and then, they can be a bit challenging to photograph, but I’m always up for the challenge, and the outcome is ALWAYS incredibly rewarding! Heck, sometimes they’re a breeze. Especially if you have a few little treats handy. This beautiful family won their photo session at a Houston Pets Alive Charity Auction this past fall. When I relocate to a new city, there are a few charities that I always look into. Ironically, I happened to stumble upon a great PetsAlive contact shortly after moving back to Texas, and I couldn’t help but donate a Pet Family Photo Session right away. While my contribution may not be incredibly significant in the grand scheme of things, I’m a firm believer that every little bit helps. It makes me extremely happy to do what I love (photograph fun families), while similtaneously being able to give back to the community (specifically, cute furry friends in need)! ;-) Their big baby, Penn was a bit shy in front of the camera, but ended up doing great for us. Thanks to Houston Pets Alive, I’m grateful to have new clients in Houston that consider their FurBaby family also!

This family photography session was filled with an abundance of two things… Early morning sunshine and smiles! After relocating back to Texas from Alaska with our new little one, it was JUST what I needed. I was officially still on maternity leave, but this beautiful family was good friends with one of my past maternity and newborn clients, so I couldn’t resist the opportunity to work with them also! I am SO glad I did. They needed fun new photographs, and I was itching to get outdoors and take photos! Even if it was the middle of August, on a very warm & steamy Texas morning. We all almost melted away, but thankfully they trusted me when I told them that they would not look like they just went for a swim in the lake behind them, in their photos. We did their session right down the street from their home. They spend a good amount of time on the lake there, so it was only appropriate. When Mom told me what they were going to be wearing in our ‘brainstorming’ pre-consulation call, I was even more excited to work with them. Seriously. Precious. Her sassy little lady was going to be wearing an incredibly classy little dress JUST like one Elsa would wear in the movie Frozen!! And she sported that thing perfectly with loads of great smiles! It was so much fun to capture these two munchkin’s big little personalities and all of them together as a family. I was very excited to know that they were very happy with all the great photos options they had to show off in their home. Especially a series of large corresponding prints of the fun silhouette photos in their dining room area! Personal fine art, my favorite kind.

It is only appropriate that my second blog post back be about the other beautiful little lady in my life! I don’t normally take senior photos, but how could I pass up capturing my gorgeous niece again?! I photographed her a couple years ago, and we had way too much fun. Just in case you missed it, you can see those photos here. Welllll, now she’s about to graduate high school and I’m grateful to be back in Texas to take her senior photos. My (as I call her) Little Momma thinks she’s awkward behind the camera, but I think my camera disagrees. Hopefully, you guys do also! Thanks to the Texas heat, it was definitely steamy out during her session though. She was a trooper and we managed to get her photo session done shortly before sunset, so we didn’t completley melt. It has been a pleasure to see her grow into a stunning young lady and I’m very excited to see what her bright future holds. There will be SO many major life decisions to be made soon… No pressure, Little Momma. You’ve got this! Love you mucho!! ;-P

A New Summer Addition

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing these adorable, yet very serious twins since they were in their Momma’s belly shortly after moving to Alaska. So it’s pretty bittersweet that I had the chance to squeeze their sister’s maternity photo session right before leaving Alaska. Unfortunately their dad couldn’t be there for this session, but he definitely played a part in picking the final images for their Photo Collection from afar. How exciting that they are expecting a new summer addition to their cute family! She’ll be coming any day now, and I know that she will be just precious! I’m extremely sad to leave such amazing clients, like this beautiful momma. BUT so grateful that I was able to capture so many beautiful moments for them. The biggest compliment for a photographer is for someone to book them to capture other special times in their life. Multiply that compliment times TEN when that someone REbooks you many times after that. You may remember seeing this cute family in this past Winter’s Mini Session Blog. It’s pretty special that I’ve had the opportunity to build such great relationships, especially when loyalty is SO hard to come by these days. I’m not going to lie, it’s hard to walk away from that, but I look forward to seeing their families grow and blossom from afar. The world is a pretty small place, so there’s a huge possibility that our path’s could eventually cross again one day!? And the exciting news, is that now I have the chance to continue and build even more great relationships with fun folks down in Texas!
