An Intimate Maternity Session

In July this cute family announced they were adding twins to their future travel plans. Now I’m thrilled to show off their intimate maternity photos! You can view their announcement photos > HERE < if you missed those. We originally had very different plans for their maternity session, but Mom was unexpectedly restricted to bed rest. As they should have, our plans quickly adapted. I assured her that we would STILL be able to get some beautiful images of her beautiful double baby belly. That is just what we did.

We captured their maternity photos in the cozy comfort of their very own home. It can’t get any more personal than that. I absolutely love how unique their photos are, and how they very literally, capture this very special time in their lives. It doesn’t hurt they have a cool eclectic decor, collected from their many travels around the world. Even some of the books in the Little One’s ever-growing library are from Mom and Dad’s travels since finding out they were expecting. One thing I love about their home is they have their family photos aesthetically displayed ALL over their home. As you can see from the photos below, they even have a large canvas from their announcement photos in the kiddos nursery! I love seeing my client’s photos proudly showcased, as they should be.

Traveling Twins…

Traveling Twins?!? That’s right Houston… this winter this well travelled couple are expecting the arrival of precious twins!! Believe it or not, they had to board a plane to New Zealand the very same day they found out they were pregnant! What a longggg flight to wrap their heads around all the excitement to come. From the beginning, they shared a special passion for travel, so it was only appropriate to announce their exciting news with a fun TRAVEL themed Pregnancy Announcement Mini Session!! The Momma-to-be started a travel blog called Always on Vacay and put their passion to work. Her blog is guide dedicated to travel, work, home and living a healthy lifestyle. Right up my alley! We met on social media because of our mutual interest in traveling. It didn’t take us long to figure out that we lived right down the street from each other. When she came to me with with her exciting news and announcement vision, I knew it was the perfect fit. I absolutely LOVE customizing my clients photos sessions, and just had to bring her unique idea to life! Especially because she wanted to include her first two (FUR) babes. They’re family also, and it’s clear they add quadruple the cuteness to their photos. ;-) Oh my goodness, traveling twins! I’m already so excited for their newborn photo session! But wait, I’m getting a bit ahead of myself…lol. Next up from these two, will be their Maternity Photo Session later this fall. A Beautiful Belly & Bluebonnets

I live and shoot in Texas now, so I absolutely HAD to take maternity photographs with a gorgeous momma surrounded by beautiful bluebonnets! After moving back to Texas late last summer, to see everyones beautiful (early summer) bluebonnet photos online, I prematurely conspired to make this session a reality. For months, I dreamt about stumbling across the perfect location, just as I had done in Alaska when I discovered an epic Fireweed field for a styled maternity session. Just as the timing of fireweed, you know about when to expect bluebonnets, but catching them at their peak is a little tricky. Especially being new to Houston, not knowing where all the great locations are.

Timing is everything, and it could not have been more perfect when this beautiful Momma-to-be reached out to me. Everything fell together great, even the last minute sneaky location, and all we needed was for Mother Nature to cooperate with our spontaneous plan. If only. She put up a bit of a fight and made the session a challenging one. Because this was a Maternity Mini Session, our time to capture all the beauty was very limited. The cloudy morning turned out to be a bright sunny day, all too fast, and the wind was crazy! Though there are many unsuccessful, wind blown images, in the end, the wind actually ended up working out great for us in several photos.

This stunning Momma was nervous about being in front of the camera. Lets be real, it’s awkward for just about any of us! But after the session, she was surprised how NOT awkward it was. I make sure to give all my mommas and clients a great deal of direction AND feedback during their session, so they’re not just left there to stand quietly in front of my lens. I let you know what looks good, we talk, sometimes I tell jokes, and I even make you laugh at yourself (in a good way, of course). My goal is to get you to relax, be as natural as possible, and (gasp) even enjoy taking photos! She said I was really good at letting her know just what to do, so I’ll call it a success! After all, she IS gorgeous, so she should definitely feel that way when in front of my camera. I’m SO happy we made this session happen. My Bluebonnet Momma has gorgeous photos of her beautiful bump, and I finally have Texas options for studio artwork, y’all!!

A New Summer Addition

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing these adorable, yet very serious twins since they were in their Momma’s belly shortly after moving to Alaska. So it’s pretty bittersweet that I had the chance to squeeze their sister’s maternity photo session right before leaving Alaska. Unfortunately their dad couldn’t be there for this session, but he definitely played a part in picking the final images for their Photo Collection from afar. How exciting that they are expecting a new summer addition to their cute family! She’ll be coming any day now, and I know that she will be just precious! I’m extremely sad to leave such amazing clients, like this beautiful momma. BUT so grateful that I was able to capture so many beautiful moments for them. The biggest compliment for a photographer is for someone to book them to capture other special times in their life. Multiply that compliment times TEN when that someone REbooks you many times after that. You may remember seeing this cute family in this past Winter’s Mini Session Blog. It’s pretty special that I’ve had the opportunity to build such great relationships, especially when loyalty is SO hard to come by these days. I’m not going to lie, it’s hard to walk away from that, but I look forward to seeing their families grow and blossom from afar. The world is a pretty small place, so there’s a huge possibility that our path’s could eventually cross again one day!? And the exciting news, is that now I have the chance to continue and build even more great relationships with fun folks down in Texas! Another Surprise in Alaska

A few weekends ago, I had the opportunity to participate in and photograph another surprise in Alaska. This time, it was our friends, Blake and Sarah’s surprise engagement!! If you’re familiar with Alaska, or had the chance to see our maternity photo session recently, you probably recognize this beautiful spot. It may be a bit touristy, but it’s the first place they hung out together, so there couldn’t be a more perfect location for their proposal. And come on, I could take photos there every day of the week and never tire of the incredible 360 views. To keep Sarah preoccupied for the day, Blake sent us for a much needed day at the spa. *AHmazing may I add* When I dropped her back off at home, there was a note for her to get ready because a limo would be picking her up soon. They were going to swing by and pick up Blake from a friend’s house, so they could head to Girdwood, Alaska for a late lunch. Sarah had no idea what was going on, but just thought Blake was being sweet after she’d surprised him with a quick birthday getaway to Vancouver the weekend before. Little did she know that he was nervously waiting up atop a mountain for her. She started to get a bit suspicious when the limo driver handed her an iPad with a video montage from all her friends and family. Once she arrived, the driver directed her up the walkway to find Blake. I was tucked inconspicuously behind several tourists and a wall of large rocks with my long camera lens. The weather could not have been more perfect, and luckily there wasn’t too many folks up there at that time. He grabbed her hand and led her over towards the mountains. You’re seeing these photos, so you can imagine her answer. ;-) If not, then you can see her shock and excitement in the photos below. Even though his back was to me when he went down on one knee, I pulled out some photog ninja skills to discretely make my way across the open area on top of the mountain without drawing any attention to myself. What an amazing backdrop to capture such a special moment!! In the photos below, you can see when Sarah finally notices that I was there. Haha. She didn’t expect a proposal anytime soon, and she certainly didn’t expect that I would be in on it, since we were just together. Everything worked out perfectly for them, and then of course we had to take some proper engagement photos! Beautiful, Stunning, Picturesque. I was so excited to be a part of “Project Blindside” and couldn’t be more excited for them. What an exciting way to start a new adventure together!

A Rustic Family Session

Last week we showcased a fun Urban Family session, so this week, I thought it would be great to feature a fun RUSTIC Family Session! It also took place in Austin. I thought that I was really putting myself up to a challenge for scheduling TWO, two years old sessions back to back, but they both went incredibly smoothly! I took this little guys newborn photos about two years ago, and it was such a treat to photograph him again. He has turned out to be a daring and inquisitive little guy. Because Grandma is such a big part of their life, she also wanted her to participate. Of course I was thrilled about the idea! His momma wanted to incorporate a little rustic Texas charm in their family session, and I knew JUST the spot for that. Ironically their location worked out well for many reasons, as it was right down the street from their home and where I was staying. We saw an airplane, turtles and even a cool caterpillar. We had SUCH a good time roaming around taking photos, that it didn’t even really seem like a photo session! That’s always a good plan (or as I like to call it, the non-plan plan) for a toddler session. ;-) I’m so grateful to work with wonderful repeat clients like these guys, and hope to continue taking photos for them for many years to come!

While back in Texas, I had the honor of photographing one of my very best friends and her family! They are a bit of an urban family, so we thought the rustic charm down on South Congress would a great choice for their session. It was very different from other photo sessions that they’ve done in more “park” like settings. Their little man was the perfect age to switch it up a bit, so taking a handful of photos in several different spots worked out great for his spunky attention span. ;-P I’ve taken photos many times for them in the past, and it makes me extremely happy that I have such great friends that truly value my passion AND support my career. That’s such a huge blessing!! Not only do I get to capture beautiful moments for them, I simultaneously get to MAKE fun memories with them also! And I just happen to know a few things about getting their handsome little one to grin. He had been practicing his smile for a couple days, and I’m going to say that he certainly got it down!

Because my schedule was much more limited than normal then, I didn’t really have a chance to ‘scout’ out a solid location prior to meeting them. I take great pride in the fact that my clients are so trusting and spontaneous when it comes to choosing their session locations. Factoring in cool spots that photograph well, and are unique to my clients, is a big part of a session’s success in my eyes. I prefer to have that mapped out in my head, as well as a back up location, justttt in case something goes awry. I would like to think that everything will always work out perfectly, just in the perfect amount of time, but THIS time… I really wasn’t sure that was the case. I’m not going to lie, I rarely get nervous about a session location working out, and I definitely WAS this time! They may be great friends, but they’re also still paying customers with busy schedules, so this HAD to work out well! Thank goodness >>insert deep breath here<< everything did work out wonderfully, and I am extremely pleased with their cute little urban family photo session. Can you just check out their GQ little man!? So handsome, with SO much personality. I love him so much, I just want to pinch his cheeks…lol. Photographing him as he grows up, is going to be a blast!!

Almost every time I go back to Texas, I just have to reach out to all my past clients to schedule photo sessions with them if at all possible. This time particular time, it was fall, so I was super excited about the sessions that I had scheduled. I’ve taken photos for this beautiful momma several times over the last several years, and I just have to say, THIS photo session is definitely my favorite. The rustic Texas landscape with her and her little cuties matching holiday outfits (from Ryleigh Rue Clothing), was just an overload of photo perfection! The light was beautiful, and the wind was a bit crazy, but it all worked out great. I had such a hard time narrowing down their gallery, and this momma had a hard time choosing the photos for her collection (we even had to ask her Little Miss to help narrow it down). That’s not a bad problem to have if you ask me! I’m confident her huge canvas will look stunning once she gets it in tomorrow! What a special connection these two have. I’m so glad that I was able to capture their fun and sassy mother-daugher chemistry! I think that every little lady should have beautiful photos with her mom, to look back on when she herself is also a mother. She may be all grown up then, but I guarantee she’ll still be her momma baby girl!! ;-)

Fun Fall Maternity Photos • Anchorage Photographer

These fall maternity photos were VERY entertaining to capture, thanks to this cute soon-to-be BIG sister! I figured out pretty quickly, that she is a great little story teller. Little Miss also had a few funny jokes to tell us. It’s always nice to have someone help to make SURE that mom and dad are wearing their best smiles for their photo session. ;-) Of course they did great! Dad was super patient with all of us, and mom had that gorgeous Prego-Glow. We chose a location in Anchorage that offered a good amount of variety. As a result, we had the opportunity to adventure around looking for various great photo spots. That was great for their photo session, AND moving around helped us to keep warm! Double whammy!! The fall colors were so pretty, and there were SO many picturesque locations. Thank GOODness, because it really meant a lot to this beautiful Momma to capture her cute belly, her cute family, and the beautiful Alaska fall all together for her Maternity photo session. Now I’m really eager to get her album designed, so she can show off her Maternity session!

A Stunning Fireweed Maternity Session

Anyone who lives in Alaska knows that once fireweed takes over, it doesn’t stick around long. And they also know that as soon as that happens, summer is justtt about over. Sad, but true. I’m a strong believer that one must seize the moment. I absolutely could not let the opportunity to take stunning photos in the fireweed quickly pass me by! This maternity session was my personal project for the month of August. Or you could say, my passion! I HAD to make this session happen, and everything about it makes my heart go pitter patter on SO many levels!! It was perfect timing for this beautiful momma-to-be to have maternity photos taken, and after some spur of the moment resourceful researching, we stumbled on THIS incredible location. When we arrived, I quickly scoped out the area, crafted a little fireweed head piece, and she absolutely ROCKED the session! Her entire second outfit was styled by the lovely ladies at Butterfly (maternity) Boutique on Dimond in Anchorage, and complimented the gorgeous fireweed perfectly. We didn’t have any issues with Mosquitos this time, but there was a random bumble bee fluttering around in a few of the photos! The sun tried to peer out behind the clouds and put a kink in our perfectly overcast afternoon, but regardless, I couldn’t be more pleased. Hopefully, you guys will see these images on the walls and website of Butterfly Boutique, and in this gorgeous momma’s home! This session confirms my NEED for a monthly personal photo project. I will seize the moment, pursue passion, and push my creative limits. In fact, I’m already brainstorming/debating possibilities for the next few months. Whatever I decide on, I can assure you there will be an overload of cuteness! These cute twins have EXCITING news!

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing these cute twins when they were in their momma’s belly a little over two years ago back in Austin, and again for their newborn photo session shortly after that. And I’m BEYOND grateful that I am able to occasionally travel back to Texas to continue photographing old & faithful clients, because I had the opportunity to photo their cute little family AGAIN in The Woodlands last month for their second birthdays! Their photo session followed a nice Texas downpour, and was appropriately filled with lots of chaos. We took some traditional family photos, some cute two year milestone photos, and even finished up with a super cute Micky & Minnie Mouse themed cake smash! They were not a fan of walking on the wet ground, but quickly changed their focus to the important stuff…CAKE. They were so sweet to even feed each other! They didn’t get too messy, but just in case, both sets of grandparents were there on hand to help out. What THEY didn’t know, was that they were actually there to get some REALLY exciting news from Dylan and Drake! You can tell from the photos below, that the twins are clearly not excited about the big news! >>insert temper tantrum here<< LOL, their surprised grandparents certainly were, and I have no doubt the twins warm up to the idea eventually. Mom was a tad bit frustrated that they didn’t cooperate and sharing the exciting news as she had planned (just as I would have been also), but it’s clear that everything worked out great!! Their change of plans included MAJOR cuteness!! They definitely did a great job communicated the news AND exactly how they felt about having to share mom and dad’s attention with a new little addition soon. ;-P I can’t wait to photograph them again once their growing family becomes a cute fam of FIVE. Can you imagine how funny it will be to pull out their beautiful session album to show these photos to them in twenty years!? Absolutely.Pricesless.Perfection.

A Country Engagement Session

These two met one night at a Country & Western dance club in Austin, and once he asked her to dance, sparks started flying right away! To really show off their connection, it was only appropriate that their engagement session take place out in the country. And when I say country… I mean serious, beautiful horses, long dirt road, grown over pastures, COUNTRY. We even had to break out the bug spray for this one! I left with a few bug bites, and a branch under my car from our off road adventure, but it was definitely worth it. Country perfection I tell you! The horses clearly mastered the art of photo bombing, and a little rabbit even wanted to participate in their session. Luckily, those are the only animals we came across out there in the middle of no where! These two claimed to be nervous in front of the camera, but did great once we got going. Especially when they started dancing in the middle of the long dirt road as the sun started setting, right before we finished up. When they started talking and giggling amongst themselves, you can definitely see those sparks! So flippin’ cute. It’s great to see how happy they make each other! They’ll have a while to perfect their moves for their first country dance as Mr and Mrs next May, and I’m definitely looking forward to it!!
