According to his mom, this cute little ham woke up from his nap with his grumpy-pants on, the day we did his colorful cake smash session. We know…being a one year old is tough stuff, but someone has to do it! He really made us work for the precious photos, it was absolutely worth it. We were able to capture his long little eyelashes, baby blue eyes, two munchkin teeth, and even his cute little chubster rolls! Between the cake and lots of silliness (thanks to mom and dad), we were able to pry some precious smiles out of him. It actually worked out perfectly, because all his dramatic little personalities came out in a matter of no time. The emotional progression in his photos is the best!! Curious, mesmerized, thrilled, content, over it, then finally PISSED. All the while, capturing his cute little details and expressions! He was a baby on a mission… after sampling the cake, he went for the candle, and after he’d had enough, he knocked the whole cake over. Such a dramatic little mister. He showed us! ;-) “Mom.. Dad.. No more of this cake smash madness. Puleaseee.” After seeing his big little crocodile tears, we decided it was time to clean up! Mom came to the rescue, and all was good with the world. These photos will be the perfect addition to the decor at his graduation party several years down the road.

Alaska Vacation Photos!!
Families, TravelAre you visiting Anchorage in the near future? And would you love beautiful vacation photos while in Alaska!? That’s what happened with these lovely ladies, and how that ended up happening is a pretty cool story! This past February when I went to Vegas for WPPI (a HUGE annual photography convention), I sat next to Allison in one of the morning classes. It was bright and early after being in Vegas for a couple days, and as perky as ever, she immediately said hello and we started chatting! Allison is a wedding photographer in Dallas, and I was so excited to meet another Texan photographer. After the standard “networking” introduction, we got to talking, and quickly figured out that we had something (besides photography and being from Texas) in common… Anchorage, ALASKA. Every year, Allison and her mother go on a big vacation together. How random and fun is that!? But that’s not it… by the end of the week in Vegas, we also realized that Allison’s sister-in-law is actually one of my old girl friends from college! This is such a crazy, random, and small world that we live in! SO this summer she and her mom came to Anchorage for a few days before exploring more of Alaska by car, ATV, plane, train, boat, raft, kayak, AND cruise ship. THAT is an adventurous vacation!! As a photographer who often vacations, I absolutely understand the value of getting a really GOOD vacation photo. You could ask the random passing stranger, and hope they get you in focus and actually capture the scenery of whatever cool place your visiting. Or there is the infamous self timer photo, which may or may not be straight, composed well, or (again) in focus. And now there is even a “selfie pole” that you can use to TRY and capture everything! However possible, if you take enough, surely one of your vacation photos may come out great. But when you’re trying to enjoy a once in a lifetime vacation, do you really want to cross your fingers and HOPE for a few good photos?! If we get more than ONE really good “framer” while on vacation, I’d say that’s a success…lol. So you can imagine that I was BEYOND ecstatic when I realized that Allison was dead set on scheduling an actual photo session in Anchorage with Savvy Images as soon as she got to Alaska! We had a little lunch with a view, we took a long drive south, we explored several areas along my favorite Alaskan coastal drive (The Seward Highway), we had a little dinner, then finished up with a gorgeous portrait session at Beluga Point. Allison even got to put her toes in the ocean! It was one heck of a day to kick off their Alaskan Adventure. I’m SO glad that I had the opportunity to make sure they started their trip out with LOTS of great vacation photos! Taking photos for another photographer is pretty darn cool, because they understand all the fun things that need to be considered for a great photo session. Though the wind was a bit crazy (as it tends to be in Alaska), we captured some beautiful images of the two of them. I had to share a handful of them below. Seriously, it’s amazing to me that they get to make so many great memories together! What a duo… They’re fun, they’re gorgeous, and they were a blast to photograph. Even though they’d strongly disagree, they really do know how to work the wind AND the camera!
If you’re planning to visit Anchorage, contact Savvy Images about coordinating a once in a life time session to capture some amazing vacation photos of you and your family while you there!
These cute twins have EXCITING news!
Babies, FamiliesI’ve had the pleasure of photographing these cute twins when they were in their momma’s belly a little over two years ago back in Austin, and again for their newborn photo session shortly after that. And I’m BEYOND grateful that I am able to occasionally travel back to Texas to continue photographing old & faithful clients, because I had the opportunity to photo their cute little family AGAIN in The Woodlands last month for their second birthdays! Their photo session followed a nice Texas downpour, and was appropriately filled with lots of chaos. We took some traditional family photos, some cute two year milestone photos, and even finished up with a super cute Micky & Minnie Mouse themed cake smash! They were not a fan of walking on the wet ground, but quickly changed their focus to the important stuff…CAKE. They were so sweet to even feed each other! They didn’t get too messy, but just in case, both sets of grandparents were there on hand to help out. What THEY didn’t know, was that they were actually there to get some REALLY exciting news from Dylan and Drake! You can tell from the photos below, that the twins are clearly not excited about the big news! >>insert temper tantrum here<< LOL, their surprised grandparents certainly were, and I have no doubt the twins warm up to the idea eventually. Mom was a tad bit frustrated that they didn’t cooperate and sharing the exciting news as she had planned (just as I would have been also), but it’s clear that everything worked out great!! Their change of plans included MAJOR cuteness!! They definitely did a great job communicated the news AND exactly how they felt about having to share mom and dad’s attention with a new little addition soon. ;-P I can’t wait to photograph them again once their growing family becomes a cute fam of FIVE. Can you imagine how funny it will be to pull out their beautiful session album to show these photos to them in twenty years!? Absolutely.Pricesless.Perfection.

Miss Alaska America Pageant
EventsIn January, I had the honor of photographing the Miss Alaska America Junior High, High School, and Collegiate Pageant here in Anchorage. It’s definitely something a little different from my cute bellies, and little newborn booties, but I embraced the opportunity! I think it’s great to challenge yourself with something different every once in a while, so you don’t grow the least bit complacent. It keeps you on your toes! Not only did I meet lots of amazing new people by doing so, but I learned quiet a few new things (mostly about pageant life). ;-) Seeing the girls strut their thing up on that stage was so much fun! Let me tell you all about some SASS!! lol. This pageant has been hosted by Rita Corwin for YEARS, but this year she passed her duties over to Sarah Smith. After intermission, the team even put an emotional slide show together for her of photos taken while Director. Rita and Sarah (with lots of great help) put on a fantastic show that even included dancers from Studio 49, AND a DJ during the runway portion of the show. It was very up beat and entertaining. Last year’s Queens had the opportunity to say goodbye, and then the new Queens were announced! Definitely suspenseful stuff. I’ve waited until now to post this blog, because these beautiful Queens are heading to Florida today for Miss America NATIONALS. The pageant will take place on July 5th and 6th, and you can even watch it live at www.pageantvision.com. Please keep the three lovely ladies below in your thoughts as they represent Alaska!!
Daddy’s Little Girl
KidsThis beautiful little girl got an incredibly cool birthday present from her awesome dad not too long ago… he scheduled a professional photo session for her with Savvy Images right before her birthday party! It was ALL about her, and I cannot even begin to explain what a handful she was! SO MUCH cute tomboy sass, all bundled into one pretty little lady (cute Disney Princess bandaid’s and all)…lol. She was so excited about her photo shoot, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to capture so much personality! We had wardrobe changes, accessory swaps, countless giggles, and SO many great daddy-daughter moments during her session. It was a little colder than we expected it would be out, but she was a trooper, and dad did a great job warming her up between photos. My favorite part about her session (in addition to all the cute sass) was that it was BEYOND clear how much her dad loved his little girl. It was seriously precious, and she adored him just a much! He also confessed that he knew exactly how full his hands were going to be in a few short years! How great is it going to be to look back on their sweet moments when she is all grown up!? We captured so much cuteness, that dad had an incredibly hard time deciding what photos he wanted to order. He definitely got some great ones! I’d venture to say these photos will be a birthday present that she’ll be grateful to have for the rest of her life! Their photos kinda serve a dual Father’s Day gift for himself also! With Father’s Day coming up, this blog post couldn’t come at a better time. I am thrilled to share a handful of their beautiful photos with you guys!

Mommy & Me Mini Sessions
Babies, Families, KidsI just had to take time out of my weekend to share some of our Mommy and Me Mini Sessions with you guys! Only being our second series of Mini Sessions, I’m very proud of the turn out! Our first were the Spring Mini Sessions, and you can see some of those photos by clicking this link. I wanted to do something a little something different for the Mommy & Me Mini Sessions, and since the weather was SO nice, I really wanted to do them outdoors! Not knowing exactly what Mother Nature was going to present to us that day, I was grateful that all the Moms were flexible getting last minute instruction on the session location! I did have my heart set on a location right near the Savvy Images studio, but it ended up being WAY too damp there. I didn’t want all the little one’s leaving covered in mud! After finding the perfect location a little further away, we were good to go! Since the sunlight is even more unpredictable than the weather, I wanted to have a back up plan for that also. So I chose to use a cream colored canopy hanging from a tree as the background. It was the perfect touch of feminine to the Alaskan wilderness, AND it actually even served a purpose! Since the sun was beating down bright, the canopy worked perfectly to shield everyone from the super harsh sun during their mini session! And I can’t say enough about all the little CUTIES!! From serious stares, to shy smiles, to super outgoing giggles… I’m so glad that there was all age ranges and cuteness. Luckily all their momma’s have really great style, because all of their outfits were incredibly precious also!! I’m always SO impressed by my Savvy Moms!! I think they’re pretty amazing for SO many different reasons. Since we ALL know that they are always the person taking photos of their little one’s, it makes me VERY happy to know that they also have great photos WITH their little one’s now! Not only will they get beautiful prints from this session, but they even have an extra special surprise headed their way with those! I always like to make sure my Mini Clients get cute little gifts, but this group has been extremely patient while I perfected their beautiful photos. I’m telling you, they’re the best!!
If you’re interested in receiving updates about our next series of Mini Sessions, please be sure to subscribe to our blog (in the top right corner of this page). Then you’ll be one of the first to get more details on those!
Mrs Alaska 2013
PortraitsAs the official photographer for the Miss Alaska Junior High, High School & Collegiate Pageant, and also the Mrs Alaska America Pageant, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and photographing MANY beautiful young ladies over the last several months. Not too terribly long ago, the current Mrs Alaska America, Gwynnedolynne James contacted me to take photos of her and her husband before handing off her title as Mrs Alaska. At first I was a little intrigued with her wishes to have her husband join along in her Queen portraits, but half way thru her session, having him participate made ABSOLUTE sense to me. And I am SO glad that he did. I already quickly figured out that she was beautiful inside and out. But barely knowing them for a just a couple hours, it was clear that he was her rock, and she was able to do such a great job holding the title of Mrs Alaska because of all his unconditional love and support. Not only did he completely and fully adore her (which was amazing to see), but THEY made an amazing TEAM together. As I’ve gotten to know them a tad bit more over time, I’ve learned something… Their marriage – and partnership – and pride – and attitude towards life is truly exceptional. They carry themselves and BELIEVE that standing by each other’s side that ANYthing is possible. Earlier I mention that he adored his Queen, but Gwynnedolynne definitely cherishes the heck out of him also. He is her King. It’s them against the world, and nothing is going to get in their way! THIS is what real partnership is all about. I guess that’s what you learn after eight years of marriage!? I am thrilled for them to have these important photographs together, and also eager to receive the HUGE beautiful wrapped canvas they ordered of themselves in a couple weeks. I have no doubt it will look amazing in their home! In the meantime, Gwynnedolynne will be passing her crown off to the new Mrs Alaska this weekend. I can’t wait to see all the ladies and their hubs decked out together, and find out who the new 2014 Mrs Alaska is going to be!
Siciliano Photography of Far North Photos
PortraitsSince moving to Anchorage last July, I have been very fortunate to network with lots of great photographers here. I’m even more excited that THIS Professional Photographer and I have actually become friends! Most of you may know by now, that I am on a serious “friends make life way more fun kick”, and this clearly further proves my point. This is Rob, the Co-Owner of Far North Photos. He and his wife Candice take some really amazing Alaskan Wildlife and Northern Lights photographs! You may remember them from their Bittersweet FurBaby Photo Session not too long ago. Well Rob has been working on something pretty big for a while, and they are finally ready to share their excitement with everyone… He has decided to broaden his reach as a Professional Real Estate Photographer here in Anchorage! His website { Robert Siciliano Real Estate Photography } was good to go, but he just needed updated photos of himself to show his new clients a little more about they person they would be working with. I was exited to hear about his new venture as a Professional Photographer, and extremely excited to be a tiny part of it. Just as their wildlife photos, his real estate photos are STUNNING. If you have ever tried to sell your home, you have to know that having great photos of it makes a HUGE difference. And even more so, if you know of anyone that could use his services, please be sure to forward this blog post along (his contact information is below)! Though you may not see many of them, I shoot quiet a few professional head shot portraits. Since Rob even had a cool story to go along with his, I just had to share them, as well as his big news. As a Professional Photographer, I know how weird it can be on the other end of the camera sometimes, but he did great. It started to sprinkle a bit during his session, but the light was just amazing! At least it didn’t actually rain, and now he has plenty of great photos to use in all his new real estate photography materials!

Compliments from Savvy Moms • Houston Newborn Photographer
NewbornsThings have been a bit quiet on the blog this past week because I was in Las Vegas for almost an entire week soaking up lots of amazing information at a HUGE photography convention. My ultimate goal was to come back to Alaska with the knowledge to improve the overall Savvy Images experience from start to finish! Spoiler Alert… I’ll talk about that a lot more on the Travel Tuesday Blog this coming week. (wink, wink) Being fairly new to Anchorage, I think it’s VERY important for my potential Savvy Moms to know what to expect of their experience with Savvy Images! What you should know is that I LOVE photographing precious little newborn babies! But what I know, is that it can be a bit scary entrusting someone you know very little about to capture precious memories of your brand new little bundle of joy. Newborn photos are key to capturing those perfect little details, and it’s definitely an investment that you don’t want to question. Even though there are currently lots of very exciting improvements in the works, I wanted to share what some of our existing Moms have to say about their experience with Savvy Images! All you have to do is visit the “Compliments” page on the Savvy Images Website
Most first time mothers don’t realize that a newborn photography session can be a lot of work, but my goal is to see that their session is a smooth sailing success! That is also why I make sure that my moms are properly prepared before hand by providing lots of great information in an electronic “Newborn Welcome Package”. Knowledge is half the battle, and patience is key (don’t worry, I have plenty of that)…haha. It is extremely important to me that each session is as meaningful as possible! This is why I LOVE to brainstorm with my moms about how to make their newborn session completely unique TO THEM. Here are some specific examples of our successful brainstorming: incorporating their little one’s nursery theme into the session, including their fur baby/sibling in the session, having their bundle wear cute outfits that their MOM knitted, or even using dad’s old baseball glove as a photo prop. Not only do I incorporating meaningful personal items in the session if possible, but I also have LOTS of beautiful newborn wraps, hats, headbands and props to use during each session. I love coordinating beautiful colors to compliment, and add the perfect touch to your beautiful photographs. If you are currently expecting, and would like to explore your newborn photo options, please contact Savvy Images, so we can chat more about your perfect and unique newborn session!!
The King Maternity Session • Anchorage Maternity Photos
MaternityThis beautiful mother-to-be had a VERY detailed vision of what she wanted her maternity photos to look like. She contacted me monthsss in advance to schedule her session. Luckily we were able to coordinate it successfully for when I was back in Texas shooting a wedding! We began the first portion at a nearby boutique hotel to capture some classy, beautiful, boudoir belly photos. You are just going to have to trust me when I say that those are absolutely gorgeous, because we’re going to keep those photos for her and her husband’s eyes only. ;-) For the second portion, we ventured to (what seems to be) one of the most popular photo spots in all of Austin… the cliffs overlooking the 360 Bridge. This location NEVER disappoints though. It amazes me that my moms don’t mind making the hike all the way up to the top pregnant, but then again, that just goes to show that they are game to do ALMOST anything for beautiful photos! I absolutely LOVE that. Just my kind of client. Momma King was very passionate about having beautiful sunset silhouette maternity photos. I have to say that we had MAJOR success there! In fact, I actually ordered a HUGE canvas of the very last photo to display in my studio. I CANNOT wait to get that in!! This is their first baby, and I know that they will cherish these photos & moments together for years to come. After all, her glow is just stunning!!
The Withrow Maternity Session • Anchorage Maternity Photos
Families, Kids, MaternityThese maternity photos make me SMILE!! Seriously…how in the world could these photos not make someone smile from ear to ear..?! From actually taking the photos, to editing them, to writing this blog post. All around, it was such a great photo session. Thanks to this handsome little ham Halen (and recently proud big brother), mom’s awesome style choosing the outfits for their session, all the lovely fall leaves, and even the evening light was fantastic!! I thought the Boardwalk at Potter Marsh would be a great place to keep this little guy’s attention, and get a good variety of great photos. Working with kiddos his age definitely keeps me on my toes and I love it! We played in the leaves, walked along the boardwalk, looked for birds, bears & fish, and mom & dad got lots of silly kisses. We manage to snag a few photos of Halen’s stunning momma, and even some of the proud parents alone. Someone (ahem…Halen..lol) loved taking photos, and tried to sneak his way into all the great shots! Haha. Of course we didn’t mind though. It was clear that this little guy lovesss his mom and dad. There is no doubt that he will absolulely love his baby brother Hudson just as much! SO DARN CUTE. I’m already looking forward to photographing the whole family soon!!
