I’ve know this pretty Momma for many years, and have been blessed to take photos for her twice! (you can see her engagement photos from two years ago HERE) It makes me incredibly happy so many of my clients repeatedly choose Savvy Images to capture their important moments. Since moving back to Texas, I’ve been doing the full time Momma gig, BUT my little Lady recently started school. Time with her is priceless and wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world, but MY… how I often yearned to photograph beautiful things!! Thank goodness for beautiful, radiant, past clients like this one who make babies… Haha.

These two love nature and being outdoors, therefore an outdoor maternity session was the only way to go. Even in the mid-summer TEXAS heat! This Momma was a MAJOR trooper. She wore her mother’s vintage hat during her session and was stunning thru to the very end. We tried to capture as many great images as we could before melting. While I like to make photo sessions as painless as possible, unfortunately I have no control over the smoldering heat. Thank goodness, the Daddy-to-be was patient. Most of all, I truly admired how MUCH he adored and cared for his lovely bride. One day he is going to be such a great role model for his little man. These two are going to make incredible parents. I’m so eager to meet their precious baby boy next month!!

The time has come

Time… oh, the time! It flies by. These colorful bluebonnet photos were taken back in April for my Little Lady’s first birthday. I blinked and I may have taken a few much needed deep breaths. Now she is in ‘school’ and it is finally TIME for Momma to get back to WORK!! Just in TIME to schedule your fall photo sessions! What a magical word…lol. Is there every really a good time for that jazz??

If anyone understands just how busy life gets, it’s yours truly. After all, Scotty’s one year photos were spontaneously taken in a field, on the side of the road headed to spend a long weekend in Austin! It’s a bit embarrassed to admit, other than her cake smash photos and sewing the outfit she wore, there wasn’t much planning involved with her one year photo session. But again, time! Surviving your first year as a parent, you quickly learn to prioritize life and any remaining energy you may have. Thank goodness, everything worked out just perfectly. I could obsess over her chubba thighs and all her many little expressions! With Dad’s help and a minor detour, we were able to capture some beautiful images of our baby girls. These two have a funny little ‘I want to cuddle you – don’t touch me’ relationship. Haha, but of course we had to include her fur sister, Reis also!

Time is an incredibly precious commodity. The good news is, scheduling a photo session with Savvy Images is pretty darn easy! Introducing Lillian Claire

Lillian was exactly 7 days old and pure perfection during her newborn photos session. She was the little lady (along with her mom) who were ‘showered’ with magazine worthy Baby Shower details not too long ago. I’ve known her Mother for MANY years, so her arrival was much anticipated for many reasons! Born at 20 inches long, this sweet girl had the cutest little feet. During her photo session, she took a cuddle/snack break to nurse, and I couldn’t resist snapping a few photos. Don’t worry, the only thing being revealed were her cute little toes! After filling her belly she dozed off into dreamland, and was the perfect little newborn model for us. We take breaks when needed because it’s important to make sure newbies are as content as possible during their sessions. Little Diva! ;-P Being a model is hard work.

Normally I have a hard time deciding if babes look more like their mom or dad, but Lillian (at this time) clearly resembled her Mom to me. Though, I’m sure that will change back and forth many times. Either way, I look forward to seeing how little Lilly blossoms as she grows up. Being loved as she is, and having a precious smile like hers, she is destined to be a happy kiddo. We used her nursery bedding in the last few ‘Nitey Nite’ photos. For Mom and Dad’s sake, lets hope she grows up sleeping really well, like she did during this session! If not, at least they have photos of her doing so. I doubt that helps in the moment, but at least she’s darn cute! ;-)

Traveling Twins…

Traveling Twins?!? That’s right Houston… this winter this well travelled couple are expecting the arrival of precious twins!! Believe it or not, they had to board a plane to New Zealand the very same day they found out they were pregnant! What a longggg flight to wrap their heads around all the excitement to come. From the beginning, they shared a special passion for travel, so it was only appropriate to announce their exciting news with a fun TRAVEL themed Pregnancy Announcement Mini Session!! The Momma-to-be started a travel blog called Always on Vacay and put their passion to work. Her blog is guide dedicated to travel, work, home and living a healthy lifestyle. Right up my alley! We met on social media because of our mutual interest in traveling. It didn’t take us long to figure out that we lived right down the street from each other. When she came to me with with her exciting news and announcement vision, I knew it was the perfect fit. I absolutely LOVE customizing my clients photos sessions, and just had to bring her unique idea to life! Especially because she wanted to include her first two (FUR) babes. They’re family also, and it’s clear they add quadruple the cuteness to their photos. ;-) Oh my goodness, traveling twins! I’m already so excited for their newborn photo session! Savvy Images Cake Smash One Year Baby Photos in Houston

A Homemade Cake Smash

Not long ago, we hit the BIG one year milestone and (of course) we celebrated by doing a super cute CAKE SMASH session! These sessions are rarely what Mom’s expect them to be. You never really know how your Little is going to react to the yummy, yet messiness of cake! Most babes are quiet shy tearing into their cakes and usually need a little help doing so from mom or dad. Every once in a while I come across one who tears into it with no shame! Scotty was somewhere in-between. At first she was way more interested in picking off and playing with the blue berries. With Dad’s guidance, she took a few bites, but decided she’d rather play the drums on her cake for a while. Haha. She shared a bit of her mess with her fur-sister, Reis (we allowed her to for a hot second). She checked out the flower cake topper, took a few more bites, then was over it. Knowing these sessions rarely happen as you’d like them to, I had zero expectations, and was very pleased by the curiosity and cuteness we captured.

I didn’t want her to have boatloads of sugar and get a tummy ache, so I decided to experiment with a little baking! When I say ‘experiment’, I am way serious. I don’t bake. Ever. My husband actually tried to talk me out of it. BUT (insert very proud Momma vibes here), I did, and we were ALL pleasantly surprised by the outcome! After scouring the internet, getting input from friends who had done the same, and consulting with my mother-in-law (who bakes often), I decided to try Fit Momma Real Food‘s No Sugar Banana Cake. You can find her recipe >>here<<. I really wanted a coral cake, so I used beet and orange peel juice to dye the cream cheese icing and whalaaa!! We had ourselves a sugar free, corn free, coral cake smash cake! Dad and I loved it so much, that we had no problem finishing up what she didn't finish! We even used the same cake for her actual first birthday party. I debated making cup cakes for her party guests, but quickly realized how many other party related items I still had to conquer by the weekend. Maybe next year!? A Beautiful Belly & Bluebonnets

I live and shoot in Texas now, so I absolutely HAD to take maternity photographs with a gorgeous momma surrounded by beautiful bluebonnets! After moving back to Texas late last summer, to see everyones beautiful (early summer) bluebonnet photos online, I prematurely conspired to make this session a reality. For months, I dreamt about stumbling across the perfect location, just as I had done in Alaska when I discovered an epic Fireweed field for a styled maternity session. Just as the timing of fireweed, you know about when to expect bluebonnets, but catching them at their peak is a little tricky. Especially being new to Houston, not knowing where all the great locations are.

Timing is everything, and it could not have been more perfect when this beautiful Momma-to-be reached out to me. Everything fell together great, even the last minute sneaky location, and all we needed was for Mother Nature to cooperate with our spontaneous plan. If only. She put up a bit of a fight and made the session a challenging one. Because this was a Maternity Mini Session, our time to capture all the beauty was very limited. The cloudy morning turned out to be a bright sunny day, all too fast, and the wind was crazy! Though there are many unsuccessful, wind blown images, in the end, the wind actually ended up working out great for us in several photos.

This stunning Momma was nervous about being in front of the camera. Lets be real, it’s awkward for just about any of us! But after the session, she was surprised how NOT awkward it was. I make sure to give all my mommas and clients a great deal of direction AND feedback during their session, so they’re not just left there to stand quietly in front of my lens. I let you know what looks good, we talk, sometimes I tell jokes, and I even make you laugh at yourself (in a good way, of course). My goal is to get you to relax, be as natural as possible, and (gasp) even enjoy taking photos! She said I was really good at letting her know just what to do, so I’ll call it a success! After all, she IS gorgeous, so she should definitely feel that way when in front of my camera. I’m SO happy we made this session happen. My Bluebonnet Momma has gorgeous photos of her beautiful bump, and I finally have Texas options for studio artwork, y’all!!

Every once in a while, the stars align and a beautiful family gathers for two very important reasons… YES, double celebrations! And the universe sweetens their gathering, as they are referred to Savvy Images by one of our fabulous past clients. Not only do they all travel in from around the US to celebrate together, but they have Savvy Images capture their special gathering! A family that truly values photography, is MY kind of family! With a beautiful new babe’s Christening and Great Grandpa’s 80th birthday, they should all be enjoying each others company. Wait, did I mention that Grandpa is a TWIN and there is double the reason to celebrate one of their double celebrations!? How cool is that?! No one should have to worry with taking photos when so much celebrating is taking place! With Savvy Images’ special event photography coverage, our goal is to capture your event from start to finish, including all the many little details in between. My hope is (if you have a horrible memory like me), you will look back on your album MANY years down the road, to remember it like it were yesterday.

This family was such a pleasure to photograph and in the few hours I spent with them, I could tell that they were a caring, fun and outgoing family. Seeing them tell stories, laugh, play and catch up together was such a treat. Their energy was contagious! And for just a moment, can we focus on their beautiful babe’s STUNNING christening gown!! Seriously. Breath taking. Even more so with her in it. This gown has been in the family for years and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to capture it for them. With so much love to share, I’m confident they’ll have MANY reasons to celebrate each other in the future. I just hope Savvy Images is there to document it for them!

Last month I helped co-hosted a baby shower for my best friend from high school. She’s expecting a baby girl any day now, so we showered her with all the love she could handle in a day. And of course, I took photos. Everything was too cute not to! Our decor was inspired by her Baby Bird’s adorable nursery. The cuteness was off the charts and I’m pretty sure not a single detail was missed! The canvas propped up on the fireplace mantel was gifted to her by several of the other shower hosts and tied the entire room together perfectly. I absolutely love when people incorporate unique personal items such as that into their events and photo sessions. You better believe we planned her baby girl’s newborn photo session accordingly also. She’s my next Savvy Newbie and I am SO eager to meet her!

Miss Georgia and her gorgeous momma came to the Savvy Images studio and I did not want her newborn photo session to end. There is the obvious (that they’re both complete beauties). Then, they are also both also very easy going. AND then, mega bonus… mom brought sooooo many cute little props, headbands and outfits to take photos in. Even at eight days young, she was still a teeny little bit, so we didn’t fit in and use near as many as we would have liked to. But just KNOW that this gal has stellar options for future photo sessions! Even the little outfit she came to the session in was precious. Like mother, like daughter. This cutie will be styling! After all, her nursery was featured on the Project Nursery Instagram account and the Caden Lane Facebook page before she was even born. I styled her (mostly pink) newborn photos to compliment her navy and pink ballerina themed room. And the adorable little crown was the perfect touch for this little princess. All her photos look like a dream together in Mom’s session brag book and I’m dying to see how they display her stunning canvas. It’s only been a month and I already cannot WAIT to capture her cute little toes as she gets bigger and fits into some of those other cute outfits! More perfection to come from these pretty ladies. One of these days, we’ll even convince Georgia’s dad and big brother to join in on the photo fun. ;-)

Several years ago, I was very excited to announce that Savvy Images joined the Magic Hour Foundation. This incredible foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides photography services to individuals and families who are battling cancer. I told you, incredible. It has gained popularity since originally joined their team, and now many
moons later, shortly after relocating back down to Texas, Savvy Images was finally matched with an amazing family to capture!

They were definitely worth the wait. When I was put in contact with Mona, I knew great things were going to happen. She was SUCH a sweetheart. We started brainstorming to plan her family’s photo session and even over the phone, her energy was contagious. Once we finally got a date nailed down, planning their session wasn’t difficult at all. She was open to my location suggestions and was very grateful for all the information I provided to help set their session up for success. After the long wait to work with The Magic Hour Foundation, I HAD to make sure it was awesome! ;-) We spontaneously narrowed the location down from two options we were considering, and it could not have worked out any better. It was great to find a photo spot IN Houston with so much character. The huge old tree made stunning photo prop/backdrop for us, as well as a super fun jungle gym for Mona’s handsome son…lol. Mona gave me a huge hug as soon as we finally met in person. The rest was sunshine and giggles! They were such a pleasant, loving and polite family to photograph. It was such a treat. Many hugs and many beautiful photographs later, Mona made it VERY clear just how grateful she was for everything I had done. Thanks to the Magic Hour Foundation, I was presented with the opportunity to give them a meaningful gift by capturing their beautiful family, but working with them was a huge gift to me also. My heart was incredibly full thanks to my Magic Family! Cancer sucks. And sometimes life can even suck. But when you meet and interact with folks who exude the kind of joy Mona and her family do, you quickly realize all the amazingness that surrounds you. As long as you open your arms to embrace it. ;-)

I am now the proud owner of an active little one year old!! Haha. It still sounds so weird to say! Things have been a bit quiet over here on the Savvy Images blog, so I wanted to share a quick personal post. From a feisty newborn, to a gassy baby, to a spunky toddler, this is my inquisitive little lady, Scotty! Of course I had to take the obligatory monthly sticker photos. ;-) We got lucky with the making of this little human… as long as she’s not tired or hungry, she is one happy girl. Though there were usually plenty of cute smiles, I did my best to capture all of her many little expressions each month. Seriously, take a look at what a good majority of month two looked like! Ahhhhh. Soooo cute, but I’m soooo glad that’s behind us! What an incredible year it has been! Each month I also tried to used different headbands, onesies, blankets and toys that were gifted to her from family and friends for an added personal touch. As you can see, when she started teething around 5 months, she spent a good amount of time with her little natural rubber teether, so I decided it was only appropriate to include it in our photo. The same with her fur sister Reis, who insisted on half-heartedly participating in her monthly photo sessions. We had to include her also!

Can we talk about how difficult it was to actually TAKE these photos each month?! There were many times when I had to FORCE myself to make it happen. Many of them are not up to my ‘professional’ standards, but regardless, I’m so glad to have them. She finally figured out the whole sticker deal. (as if…Mom!) Good thing there aren’t any more, because even with Dad’s help, it was difficult enough keeping the last one on her for a hot minute. I had all these photos displayed together at her birthday party a few weeks ago and it made me SO very happy. Not only did we all survive the first year, but my little nugget has truly flourished. A HUGE accomplishment in my book. Being a new mom, there are SO many overwhelming things going on in life. Mainly trying to have a life, and trying discovering your “new normal” in life! HA. Of the MANY things I’ve learned, prioritizing my time is near the top of that list. There are many gorgeous sessions I’m dying to share with you guys (and will soon). In the meantime, I can’t resist passing up a chance to capture more beautiful memories for my awesome clients AND spend as much time as possible with this little Chunka-Lova. She’s growing and changing so quickly, right in front of my eyes!

When Emery was ONE

Earlier this week baby Karson was featured on the Savvy Images blog, soooo I couldn’t resist showing off his big sister Emery’s one year photo session also! Even though her photos were taken WAY back in July of 2013, and she’s all big and grown up now. Just like her photos, Emery is FULL of fun and crammed packed with a BIG sassy little personality! Don’t let her beautiful baby blues fool you, she tore into her cute little birthday cake like nobody’s business. Out of all of my cake smash babies, I would venture to say that she conquered her cake like a champ (the key detail being > ALL on her own). Normally babies are a bit unsure of what to do and need a bit of guidance, but not this little beauty! First time eating cake… “I’ve got this Mom!” One year photo sessions are always so much fun. It’s like a mini explosion of a little personality. I absolutely love Working with families to customize a session based completely on their little Loves unique personality! I know mom will get a kick out of looking back at these photos several years later. It’s truly mind boggling how quickly babes turn into little kiddos right before your eyes!
