This super fun fam calls themselves The Carrier Five. And when I say they’re fun, that’s really an understatement. You can find them at baseball games, soccer games, golf tournaments, cheerleading competitions, family vacations, birthday parties and even doing “market research” for a fun family business in the works. ;-)
I’ve known The Carrier Five since before their start, many, many years ago. And I’m pretty sure they just don’t slow down. Because with three spunky little Loves like these kiddos, of course they’re going to be crazy busy!
It goes without saying that mom and dad are going to have their hands FULL with sassy gals!! It’s clear to see, they were absolute naturals in front of the camera. But not only were they beautiful young ladies, more importantly, they were incredibly polite lil sweethearts. Amen to seeing little humans being raised so well.
I’m so glad they decided on my Premium Photo Collection, because their were sooooo many great photos from their session. So many, I’ll be posting a second blog at a later date, sharing some big news on their behalf. Can we just focus on how cute these two love birds are, in the meantime?!
This session has actually been in the works for many years! Their absolutely STUNNING momma contacted me about photos not too long before I moved away many years ago. We weren’t able to schedule their session then, but I have to say that it was WELL worth the wait!! I’m a firm believer that momma’s need their photos taken more often and the photos below are why!
During their pre session consultation, we chatted about outfits and planned the different photos that were important to them. Because I was already in the area, I even scouted out several locations. The day of their session, the first and thankfully, easiest location was by far the best option. It was the perfect spot for a luscious spring session for The Carrier Five!! I bet you can’t tell we’re actually on a nature trail and disc golf course. ;-)

Families
Fun, vivid and unique family photos taken by Savvy Images.
Back in Austin
Families, KidsAfter moving all around and finallyyyy making my way back to Austin, it’s only appropriate that this would be the first family I photograph! One of my very best friends, and as a result, one of Savvy Images’ very first clients. I am beyond blessed to have fun friends who whole heartedly support me and what I love doing!! I’ve photographed their cute family from the announcement of their first little Lover, for their first maternity photo session, as well as both of their newborn sessions (you can check their first one here).
Most anyone could assume that photographing little kids definitely keeps you on your toes. But my favorite thing about it, is bringing out their fun *big* LITTLE personalities. And these two, most certainly have those, without a doubt! LOL
We decided to do their photos at Brushy Creek Park. Being new to the area again, I was a bit nervous photographing them there because I hear it can get extremely busy (and even hostile) in the fall. I was actually friends with the only other photographer we ran into! It was so nice to hug her neck after several years. I look forward to rebuilding my little photography network, as well as my list of photoshoot locations here in Austin.
Can we take a moment to focus on the precious momma’s boy and daddy’s girl photos!?
And of course, we had a capture Mom and Dad putting out the vibe. ;-) I was pumped when even Dad agreed that their photo session was a painless as it could be. I mean… what dad like to get all snazzed up to herd cats (umm, I mean kids) into taking family photos in a perfectly overgrown field?!
The week before their photo session, I helped style their outfits. This is a service I offer all Savvy Images clients during their pre session consultation call. Mom had an idea of what she wanted, including several options to choose from and I helped piece and coordinate it all together. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised how well they unintentionally coordinated with the field we chose! ;-) And the perfect golden hour light, was the icing on their perfect portrait cake.
A great deal of thought and planning goes into a successful family photo session. Therefore, I always provide my families with all the information I can, to set them up for success.
If you know these two well, then you know the sass and silliness I had to embrace. So. Much. Fun. I loved every single moment. I am so excited to reunite with old clients and get back to photographing fun families here in Austin!
If you or anyone you know need professional photos here in Austin, please keep Savvy Images in mind.

Motherhood
FamiliesMotherhood is the most challenging things I have ever done. I was forced to discover this minor detail way faster than expected when my first born made her way into this world ten weeks early. Exactly five days before our movers were scheduled to move us from Alaska to Texas. Our adventurous little Lady just had to be an Alaskan! Since the moment my water unexpectedly broke after an uneventful date night, I have been winging motherhood as best I can. Just like sooooo many awesome mommas out there. We do the best we can with the knowledge and resources we have at any given moment.
But what I have also learned, is if you pay attention, the universe gives you exactly what you can handle. In just the right time.
Knowing what I do now, I feel I experienced her birth the way I did to open my eyes. And more importantly, to teach me how to raise healthy children. I’ve been mostly successful so far, so I can say my traumatic experience wasn’t completely worthless.

Just like some shitty experiences happen for good reason, I’m confident that many of the people you come across in life serve a purpose. This beautiful mom and I bonded over an incredibly cute pair of Hannah Andersson slide on sandals during our daughter’s swim classes. Little did we know then, we would grow to share a valuable friendship. And ultimately, due to each of our current circumstances, our friendship would help both of us be better mothers!

After a few turbulent life experiences, I thought these beautiful ladies needed something a little “extra.” They were going to be the perfect models for a styled photo session I’ve had in mind.

During different types of self development exploration, I thought myself how to sew!! Largely thanks to the help of YouTube and a few valuable Facebook sewing groups. You can see I have lots of time on my hands after putting our girls down in the evenings, while dad travels for work and school. Mom’s top is self drafted using many lucky guestimations, and I used a modified Stripped Swallow Designs pattern for her little Lady’s dress.
When planning this styled photo session, my vision was Mommy & Me Glam. Everything came together just as I had envisioned, including mom’s hair and makeup. Keep an eye out for another blog post in the future, about working with the lovely Beauty by Sofia Bee! She’s an incredibly talented momma herself, who uses Non Toxic Beauty products on all her clients.

In the meantime, put all your awesome momma vibes out there, to connect and bless the other hard working mommas around you! We all have our unique challenges and life is a whole lot better when we conquer motherhood together!
Destined for the Bay
FamiliesThe same morning that my husband and I decided to make the leap of faith to move to The Bay Area, I went to a playdate with two other Houston mommas. One of the moms was a fairly new friend and the other, I was just meeting for the first time. A bit frazzled and still in shock, I shared my news. There were some long winded “What in the world are we thinking?” comments, and then my new momma friend, mentioned, one day she hoped to make the same move with her family.
It wasn’t long before we were taking a break house hunting at a cool park in San Francisco and I received a text message from her saying her husband just accepted a new job. They were going to be moving also! They actually ended up moving to the Bay Area before we did. It was great!! We had our first friends in California, before even moving here. So it only makes sense they would be the first family I photograph here in the Bay Area.
Her Little One’s are the same age as mine, so it couldn’t have been more perfect. We scheduled play dates right away, as soon as we got moved. Even before settling in to our new home! It was the best way to keep the sane for all involved. Anyone who has made a big move with small children, very likely know exactly what I’m talking about.
And it’s an added bonus that we automatically get fun parent friends out of the whole deal also. ;-)
Baby Brett and I had a great time, scouting locations. And of course, checking out the parks nearby. I was so excited to finally have the chance to capture some of the incredible beauty here in California during their family photo session!
All about Love
Families, Kids, PersonalI have been thinking a lot about love. Loving those around you, loving who you are, loving what you stand for and loving what you do. A fellow creative entrepreneur recently posted on Instagram asking, “What are you willing to do for a whole year and never get paid?” This really struck a cord with me.
This. At this very moment in my life, this is what I would do.
Documenting beautiful moments like these is what I love doing.
I had originally planned to do another blog post today on Valentine’s Day, but my mind kept going back to these images. Timeless and simple, yet they radiate pure and boundless love. All that is important.
Shortly after relocating to Burlingame, I was contacted by a fellow mom about taking holiday photos for the Down Syndrome Connection of the Bay Area. With so many unknowns up in the air, I was not able to commit do doing so at first. But as the universe would have it, I was ultimately able to. Even after many obstacles, I am so very glad it worked out. Donating my personal time to photograph these fun families was one of the highlights of my holiday season. I smile every time I think about the incredible energy that took place during each of these mini sessions. I was so eager to share the photos with each family and now I’m so excited to finally share their contagious love with you!
Love and be loved. Happy Valentine’s Day!!
My Magic Family
FamiliesSeveral years ago, I was very excited to announce that Savvy Images joined the Magic Hour Foundation. This incredible foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides photography services to individuals and families who are battling cancer. I told you, incredible. It has gained popularity since originally joined their team, and now many
moons later, shortly after relocating back down to Texas, Savvy Images was finally matched with an amazing family to capture!
They were definitely worth the wait. When I was put in contact with Mona, I knew great things were going to happen. She was SUCH a sweetheart. We started brainstorming to plan her family’s photo session and even over the phone, her energy was contagious. Once we finally got a date nailed down, planning their session wasn’t difficult at all. She was open to my location suggestions and was very grateful for all the information I provided to help set their session up for success. After the long wait to work with The Magic Hour Foundation, I HAD to make sure it was awesome! ;-) We spontaneously narrowed the location down from two options we were considering, and it could not have worked out any better. It was great to find a photo spot IN Houston with so much character. The huge old tree made stunning photo prop/backdrop for us, as well as a super fun jungle gym for Mona’s handsome son…lol. Mona gave me a huge hug as soon as we finally met in person. The rest was sunshine and giggles! They were such a pleasant, loving and polite family to photograph. It was such a treat. Many hugs and many beautiful photographs later, Mona made it VERY clear just how grateful she was for everything I had done. Thanks to the Magic Hour Foundation, I was presented with the opportunity to give them a meaningful gift by capturing their beautiful family, but working with them was a huge gift to me also. My heart was incredibly full thanks to my Magic Family! Cancer sucks. And sometimes life can even suck. But when you meet and interact with folks who exude the kind of joy Mona and her family do, you quickly realize all the amazingness that surrounds you. As long as you open your arms to embrace it. ;-)

Baby Karson is ONE
Babies, FamiliesHow blessed is this precious family to be celebrating an entire year filled with Baby Karson cuteness!? His little heartbreaker eyes and pout are beyond adorable! And I can’t even handle just how much his big sister loves him. Seriously. Heart. Melting. Mom was inspired to have his one year photo session, a la natural, out in the great outdoors. When I discovered all the many cool features at the location she had in mind, I got giddy excited about taking their photos there. WG Jones State Forest worked out fantastic and a fun fact related to its name, is that Karson’s grandpa is the incredibly talented and late George Jones! Double meaning and even more variety, makes it a win for all!! I had to capture the crane by the lake and the ducks bathing themselves, right before we got started. The huge logs and little stumps made for perfect photo props, and all the many little pine cones were the perfect accent! Towards the end of his session, little Karson had enough. He was tired and cold and over it. Seeing his big sister comfort him was something I will never forget. So much love! I’m so glad I had the opportunity to capture all the cuteness for mom and dad to look back on in many years. Those two, they make beautiful babies! But lets be real. I am the one who is really blessed here. This was my second time working with this fun family. Loyal clients are my absolute favorite! Stay tuned to see photos from Karson’s big sisters one year photo session a few years ago on the blog later this week.
Sunshine & Smiles
Families, KidsThis family photography session was filled with an abundance of two things… Early morning sunshine and smiles! After relocating back to Texas from Alaska with our new little one, it was JUST what I needed. I was officially still on maternity leave, but this beautiful family was good friends with one of my past maternity and newborn clients, so I couldn’t resist the opportunity to work with them also! I am SO glad I did. They needed fun new photographs, and I was itching to get outdoors and take photos! Even if it was the middle of August, on a very warm & steamy Texas morning. We all almost melted away, but thankfully they trusted me when I told them that they would not look like they just went for a swim in the lake behind them, in their photos. We did their session right down the street from their home. They spend a good amount of time on the lake there, so it was only appropriate. When Mom told me what they were going to be wearing in our ‘brainstorming’ pre-consulation call, I was even more excited to work with them. Seriously. Precious. Her sassy little lady was going to be wearing an incredibly classy little dress JUST like one Elsa would wear in the movie Frozen!! And she sported that thing perfectly with loads of great smiles! It was so much fun to capture these two munchkin’s big little personalities and all of them together as a family. I was very excited to know that they were very happy with all the great photos options they had to show off in their home. Especially a series of large corresponding prints of the fun silhouette photos in their dining room area! Personal fine art, my favorite kind.
Alaska to Texas Sendoff Session
Families, PetsThis family photo session was supposed to be the last I did in Alaska before moving back to Texas. Given each of the drastically different perceptions about Alaska and Texas (igloos and penguins vs tractors and horses), I thought that this was the perfect send off session. Horses in Alaska!! If you read my last blog about the BIG surprise following our maternity photo session, then you know it didn’t exactly work out that way. And that’s okay. Everything worked out just as is should. Then, and for their session also. We were down to the wire scheduling their family photo session, and it happened to be the coldest day of Anchorage’s mild Alaskan winter. ;-) Thank goodness they had a rustic barn for us to utilize for their session! Don’t get me wrong, it was still really cold, as the barn isn’t heated and it was NEGATIVE two degrees outside. You may be able to see the little miss below rocking some hand warmers in the photos, and that was just fine with all of us. She was able to warm her fingers to make the session a little more bearable, and it’s a sneaky little reminder of just how flippin’ cold it was that day. Those and her cute, red little nose! After all, it is Alaska. In their charming Alaskan barn, they had several beautiful horses trying to stay warm, so we just had to include one in their photos. With all the furbabies you may have seen in my photos, I’m sure you can tell that I’m a huge fan of including family pets in your photo session! Even if they have hooves instead of paws. But of course we had to include the newest fur baby additions also. Major cuteness overload with three pretty ladies, a stunning horse and all those cuddly puppies! I’m so excited to finally share their beautiful photos with all of you.
Snowy Fur Child Session
Families, PetsI’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to photograph this cute family and their fur child twice now, and I’m even more blessed to call them friends! You may remember this sassy pup and her sister from their bittersweet photo session, and their awesome dad from his real estate portrait session last year. Also, if you didn’t make the connection, he is the incredibly talented person that took our super cute pregnancy announcement photos not too long ago. ;-) I can’t tell you how much we are going to miss them when we move back to Texas!! It’s so nice to have reliable friends that both my husband and I get along so well with. We all went to dinner last week, and the time flewwww by because we were all having such a good time chatting it up. It was really nice that they also loved to get out and embrace Alaska when possible. I just wish we could have coordinated our chaotic schedules to all adventure around Alaska more together while we were here! I must say that it’s a huge bonus to hang out with people that inspire you to be better at what you love. This photo session was by far my coldest to date here in Alaska! Thank goodness even Miss Apun was a trooper, for the most part. She let us know when she’d had enough. Haha. We toughed thru the harsh conditions and I’m SO glad that we were able to capture lots of cute family snow photos. Having all those for them to proudly display in their home for years to come was definitely worth the chill. ;-)
Colorful Family Photos
Families, KidsThis mom and I crossed paths many times since we each moved to Alaska, and I always got excited when she expressed an interested in having new family photos taken. She had a go-to photographer back in New Orleans, but since moving, it had been several years since they’d had family photos taken. Because of the recent news that we were going to move back to Texas, her busy life with the three cute little ones below, and the crap conditions Mother Nature has presented Anchorage with this winter, I was afraid that it would never happen. But I’m VERY happy to be sharing their colorful family photos with you guys today, because clearly it did! We all know that life gets busy, and it’s SO easy to put things like getting new family photos taken put on the back burner. Completely understandable! But you also have to keep in mind that those cute little scrunchy noses grow up quickly, and the memories that pass can no longer be preserved. Though the conditions were not what either of us had in mind for their great “Alaskan” photo session, I think it turned out beyond perfect for them! We didn’t wait on the perfect moment, we MADE the moment perfect. Heck, I even found twenty dollars frozen in the thawing ice while checking out this spot for their session. This is actually a pretty popular spot to have photos taken here in Anchorage, and I’m so glad that I saved it for one of my final photo sessions. Seriously, I don’t think I could imagine a more perfect backdrop for all their fun colorful winter coats! During their session their mom also mentioned that because of the teal bridge, these photos will actually coordinate very well with the last family photos that they had taken in New Orleans! I just LOVE when a session works out perfectly for my clients. Their family session album will be the perfect way to show off those silly little laughs for years to come!
A Rainbow Baby Announcement
Families, Kids, MaternityThis cute family has an EXCITING and colorful announcement to make… They are expecting a beautiful little Rainbow Baby girl this June!! Pretty early in my pregnancy, I was taking a one on one pilates class from this fit hot momma, and I confided my exciting pregnancy news to her… only to find out a few short weeks later at a mutual friends baby shower, that SHE was expecting a baby girl also! I was so excited to finally have someone here in Anchorage to swap real time pregnancy stories and advice with. We chatted briefly about doing pregnancy announcement photos, and within a week or so (thanks to a great idea she had) we formulated a super unique plan for their pregnancy announcement photos. And that’s when I learned all about what exactly what she meant… A “rainbow baby” is a baby that’s born following a miscarriage or still birth. Once I heard her explanation, I felt like such a ding dong. It made SO much sense. We all know that beautiful rainbows appear after dreadful storms. By incorporating a rainbow umbrella into her session following their past storm, was the PERFECT way to remember her precious angel baby boy, while celebrating and announcing the news of their beautiful baby girl. I just love the vivid pop of color against the Alaskan snow. It was superrrr chilly out, so we made sure their photo session was short and sweet. But regardless of the temperature, you can still tell from their photos that big sister is VERY excited and proud to share their Rainbow Baby news! Just as she should be. I’m so eager to photograph them again once mom’s cute little belly grows a bit more!
