Every once in a while, the stars align and a beautiful family gathers for two very important reasons… YES, double celebrations! And the universe sweetens their gathering, as they are referred to Savvy Images by one of our fabulous past clients. Not only do they all travel in from around the US to celebrate together, but they have Savvy Images capture their special gathering! A family that truly values photography, is MY kind of family! With a beautiful new babe’s Christening and Great Grandpa’s 80th birthday, they should all be enjoying each others company. Wait, did I mention that Grandpa is a TWIN and there is double the reason to celebrate one of their double celebrations!? How cool is that?! No one should have to worry with taking photos when so much celebrating is taking place! With Savvy Images’ special event photography coverage, our goal is to capture your event from start to finish, including all the many little details in between. This family was such a pleasure to photograph and in the few hours I spent with them, I could tell that they were a caring, fun and outgoing family. Seeing them tell stories, laugh, play and catch up together was such a treat. Their energy was contagious! And for just a moment, can we focus on their beautiful babe’s STUNNING christening gown!! Seriously. Breath taking. Even more so with her in it. This gown has been in the family for years and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to capture it for them. With so much love to share, I’m confident they’ll have MANY reasons to celebrate each other in the future. I just hope Savvy Images is there to document it for them!

Last month I helped co-hosted a baby shower for my best friend from high school. She’s expecting a baby girl any day now, so we showered her with all the love she could handle in a day. And of course, I took photos. Everything was too cute not to! Our decor was inspired by her Baby Bird’s adorable nursery. The cuteness was off the charts and I’m pretty sure not a single detail was missed! The canvas propped up on the fireplace mantel was gifted to her by several of the other shower hosts and tied the entire room together perfectly. I absolutely love when people incorporate unique personal items such as that into their events and photo sessions. You better believe we planned her baby girl’s newborn photo session accordingly also. She’s my next Savvy Newbie and I am SO eager to meet her!

A Colorful CARS Birthday Bash

This handsome little dude and his momma were my “Mommy & Me” mini session models, so I was ecstatic when she asked me to photograph his second birthday party. Of course she wanted all of his Cars-themed birthday cuteness to be captured, because (little did I know beforehand) ALL of her party planning details were going to be pure Pinterest perfection. As expected, she was busy being Alaska’s best party planner and birthday boy’s mom, so it makes perfect sense that she wanted to have me capture his birthday party. Everyone knows that (for some crazyyy reason) mom usually ends up TAKING all the photos, and are rarely actually IN them. I’m so glad that she could enjoy the birthday chaos, without worrying about also taking photos of everything! And when I say everything, there was A LOT of cute Cars themed EVERYthing. From the cute little welcome sign on the front door, to the adorable little party favors for their guests (and all the fun & yummy details between), she didn’t miss a SINGLE party detail. All of it was SO cute, colorful, well decorated, and well thought out. There were even indoor and outdoor Car’s themed activities for all the kiddos to have lots of fun. Heck, the adults also had a great time, and THAT is when you know that you’ve thrown a successful party! But MOST important, it is clear that the birthday boy had a great time. He is OBsessed with Cars, and was on Cloud 9 the whole party! He may have had more fun playing with his Cars on his birthday cake, than actually eating it!? In addition to his countless party details, I had the opportunity to capture lots of fun candid party photos, and even managed to sneak in a few family photos of the birthday boy with mom and dad. I am very grateful to have the best clients! Seriously… I just LOVE that my clients go to such great lengths to create priceless memories. Anyone who puts that much time and effort into anything should get a HUGE pat on the back, and lots of cute photos!

Mrs. Alaska 2014

Back in May Gwynnedolynne James passed her crown down to the lovely April Wallen at the 2014 Mrs Alaska America Pageant. Just as both of these young ladies are, Alaska is GORGEOUS. Therefore, I insisted on incorporated the great outdoors into Gwynnedolynne’s farewell photo session, and absolutely had similar big ideas to do the same for April’s Queen Photo Session. Of course we had to get the traditional head shots and studio portraits for the coming Mrs America Nationals, but I was most excited about the photos that would follow those. After brainstorming about her session, we were on the same page that we needed an incredibly dramatic Alaskan backdrop in our future. Ohhhhh the amazinges that came was such a pleasant blessing! We discovered JUST that. Adding blue sparkly sequins and the gorgeous Mrs to the stunning scene was just an overload of all things amazing!! Thank goodness April was just as passionate as I was about her photos, because she was a trooperrrr. Seriously, you should see how many mosquitos that I had to photoshop off her FACE and out of the photos. Then there was the fact that she had to awkwardly balance on a log to get several of the images that we did. That limited the variety of our poses a bit, but I think everything turned out just smashing! At one point, you’d never even know that she was wearing sneakers with her lovely gown. ;-) We also had to be super careful that she didn’t move around too much and snag it on something. It was definitely an interesting session, and I’m SO glad that no wild animals decided to join us by the riverside! One man did happened to hike by during the shoot, and was thoroughly confused. LOL, it’s not everyday that you see a beauty queen hanging out dressed to the nines deep in the forest. I’m certainly glad that she did! As snazzy as April was, she was even more so down to earth. We had such a great time, and I’m so glad that I got a chance to know her a little better. This weekend she will be heading to Tuscon, Arizona to represent Alaska in the annual Mrs America Pageant. Everyone please be sure to keep our beautiful Mrs Alaska America in your thoughts as she does! I have no doubt that she will make us VERY proud!!

Miss Alaska America Pageant

In January, I had the honor of photographing the Miss Alaska America Junior High, High School, and Collegiate Pageant here in Anchorage. It’s definitely something a little different from my cute bellies, and little newborn booties, but I embraced the opportunity! I think it’s great to challenge yourself with something different every once in a while, so you don’t grow the least bit complacent. It keeps you on your toes! Not only did I meet lots of amazing new people by doing so, but I learned quiet a few new things (mostly about pageant life). ;-) Seeing the girls strut their thing up on that stage was so much fun! Let me tell you all about some SASS!! lol. This pageant has been hosted by Rita Corwin for YEARS, but this year she passed her duties over to Sarah Smith. After intermission, the team even put an emotional slide show together for her of photos taken while Director. Rita and Sarah (with lots of great help) put on a fantastic show that even included dancers from Studio 49, AND a DJ during the runway portion of the show. It was very up beat and entertaining. Last year’s Queens had the opportunity to say goodbye, and then the new Queens were announced! Definitely suspenseful stuff. I’ve waited until now to post this blog, because these beautiful Queens are heading to Florida today for Miss America NATIONALS. The pageant will take place on July 5th and 6th, and you can even watch it live at www.pageantvision.com. Please keep the three lovely ladies below in your thoughts as they represent Alaska!!

Posh Boutique, Kendall Lexus of Alaska, and Beacon Media + Marketing partnered up to put on the benefit trunk show of the season benefitting The Eva Foundation! This foundation helps survivors of abuse regain their self-confidence and independence to build a better life. The runway fashion show featured the new looks from Posh Boutique, the showroom was decorated by Artwork from local artist V Rhae, the event was catered by Terra Bella, and specialty drinks were provided by Truli Peak Vodka. They had amazing swag bags for all the guests, and fantastic raffle prizes from Allure Day Spa, and many others. Mrs. Alaska was there to MC, and even the namesake of The Eva Foundation was there to tell her story. It was so great to be part of such a fantastic night, benefitting such a great organization! Just to give you guys a little heads up… Savvy Images is very excited to be donating a Two Hour Family Photography Session (including a 10 Folio Collection) to the silent auction taking place at The Christmas Tree Elegance Christmas Gala!! Grand Opening of Lululemon Athletica

There has been lots of excitement among the ladies of Anchorage, Alaska… The Lululemon Athletica Showroom is finally open!! It is just beautiful. The hard working ladies that run the place are knowledgeable, helpful, and incredibly nice! Guys… don’t feel left out, because they even have lots of amazing gear for you! As well as a comfy sitting area. ;-) They’re open Thursdays thru Sundays from 11am to 6pm, so definitely stop by and check it out sometime. They can get you fixed up with some pretty amazing work out attire! Below are some of the photos from their Grand Opening weekend, which included two amazing guest yoga instructors, yummy snacks, and even a DJ. Because they’re a ‘showroom’, they’ll be a lot more focused on the community, and connecting with all the cool/active folks around Anchorage. Happy Birthday Willie Nelson!!

Last month I had the amazing opportunity to photograph Willie Nelson. Not only did I get to photograph him, but also The 4th & Goal Gala that he was playing at that evening. Their goal was to help raise money for Darrell K Royal’s Alzheimer’s Research Fund at Austin City Limits Moody Theater in Austin. Such a scary disease, but a very cool event.
Two air gymnasts kicked off the evening, and many University of Texas Band and Football Alumni made an appearance. As well as lots of other important folks! It was such a moving and emotional event. There were SO many folks there to celebrate the life of Coach Royal and raise money for Alzheimer’s awareness. And my goodness, did they raise some money!! Seeing how many people’s lives he touched in such a positive way was just incredible. I’m beyond grateful that I was given the opportunity to capture so many wonderful moments honoring “Coach”, as well as take lots of cool photos of Willie Nelson.

He put on such a great show, and even his brother and sister were there to play with him. Some seriously raw emotion, and SO many great hits! His fans love him, and he loves for his fans to sing along with him! Since it happens to be Willie’s birthday today, I thought this was the perfect blog post. Not only did he play and help raise money for The 4th & Goal Gala back in March, but he also had an 80th Birthday Party Bash this past Sunday night to raise money for the victims in West, Texas.

I would say that it’s clear that Willie is a pretty incredible (and talented) individual. I hope Willie has ONE HELLOFA BIRTHDAY today, and that everyone jams out to their favorite Willie tunes in honor of his 80 years of awesomeness!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WILLIE NELSON!!!!

I was thrilled when the Ducote’s hosts asked me to not only attend, but to photograph their baby shower. The gift of professional baby shower photos is definitely a good one to cherish those special moments with your friends and family. The little man decor was the perfect fit for their fall couples cocktail style baby shower. There was a good selection of great food and libations. Their baby bundle Carter will be styling for quiet some time with all the nice clothes and baby must-have’s they received. And to keep things interested there was a contest for all the guests to decorate a baby bib for Baby Carter. If you know Crystal and Drew, then you’ll understand why the winner’s bib said “I’m formal but I like to Party!” LOL Such a good time, and definitely a fun crowd. Keep an eye out for the Ducote’s Maternity Photos on the blog in the near future!

Travis Co. Medical Association Picnic

Every year the Travis County Medical Alliance gets together and has a picnic for all of it’s members. This year, I was asked to take family photos there. I had such a great time doing so, and I met so many different fun families! The weather was beyond ideal for a mid-day picnic at my favorite park in Austin… Mayfield Park!! There was a clown painting faces, live music, a tractor train, and of course the infamous/beautiful peacocks! Below are some of the MANY fun photos and good looking families I photographed. So many cute little characters and I hope to shoot some of them again one day!

Super Kamren’s Super Hero Birthday Party

I was super excited when I was asked to attend and photograph Super Kamren’s 4th Super Hero Birthday Party!! His super hero mom (aka Bat Woman) didn’t miss one single super hero detail when planning and decorating… from a super big coloring wall, to a super cool bouncy house, to a super yummy cake and super cute party favors (I could go on, but I won’t…lol). Kamren (aka Batman) had a blast with all his super hero friends, and all the grown-ups had way too much fun with the photo booth! I know there are lots of supers in this blog… but it really was a SUPER great birthday party!
