Another Surprise in Alaska

Engagements

A few weekends ago, I had the opportunity to participate in and photograph another surprise in Alaska. This time, it was our friends, Blake and Sarah’s surprise engagement!! If you’re familiar with Alaska, or had the chance to see our maternity photo session recently, you probably recognize this beautiful spot. It may be a bit touristy, but it’s the first place they hung out together, so there couldn’t be a more perfect location for their proposal. And come on, I could take photos there every day of the week and never tire of the incredible 360 views. To keep Sarah preoccupied for the day, Blake sent us for a much needed day at the spa. *AHmazing may I add* When I dropped her back off at home, there was a note for her to get ready because a limo would be picking her up soon. They were going to swing by and pick up Blake from a friend’s house, so they could head to Girdwood, Alaska for a late lunch. Sarah had no idea what was going on, but just thought Blake was being sweet after she’d surprised him with a quick birthday getaway to Vancouver the weekend before. Little did she know that he was nervously waiting up atop a mountain for her. She started to get a bit suspicious when the limo driver handed her an iPad with a video montage from all her friends and family. Once she arrived, the driver directed her up the walkway to find Blake. I was tucked inconspicuously behind several tourists and a wall of large rocks with my long camera lens. The weather could not have been more perfect, and luckily there wasn’t too many folks up there at that time. He grabbed her hand and led her over towards the mountains. You’re seeing these photos, so you can imagine her answer. ;-) If not, then you can see her shock and excitement in the photos below. Even though his back was to me when he went down on one knee, I pulled out some photog ninja skills to discretely make my way across the open area on top of the mountain without drawing any attention to myself. What an amazing backdrop to capture such a special moment!! In the photos below, you can see when Sarah finally notices that I was there. Haha. She didn’t expect a proposal anytime soon, and she certainly didn’t expect that I would be in on it, since we were just together. Everything worked out perfectly for them, and then of course we had to take some proper engagement photos! Beautiful, Stunning, Picturesque. I was so excited to be a part of “Project Blindside” and couldn’t be more excited for them. What an exciting way to start a new adventure together!Savvy Images - Surprise Proposal - Destination Photographer

A Country Engagement Session

Engagements

These two met one night at a Country & Western dance club in Austin, and once he asked her to dance, sparks started flying right away! To really show off their connection, it was only appropriate that their engagement session take place out in the country. And when I say country… I mean serious, beautiful horses, long dirt road, grown over pastures, COUNTRY. We even had to break out the bug spray for this one! I left with a few bug bites, and a branch under my car from our off road adventure, but it was definitely worth it. Country perfection I tell you! The horses clearly mastered the art of photo bombing, and a little rabbit even wanted to participate in their session. Luckily, those are the only animals we came across out there in the middle of no where! These two claimed to be nervous in front of the camera, but did great once we got going. Especially when they started dancing in the middle of the long dirt road as the sun started setting, right before we finished up. When they started talking and giggling amongst themselves, you can definitely see those sparks! So flippin’ cute. It’s great to see how happy they make each other! They’ll have a while to perfect their moves for their first country dance as Mr and Mrs next May, and I’m definitely looking forward to it!!Country Engagement Photos - Savvy Images - Destination Photographer

A Yummy Engagement Session

Engagements, Pets

I have been excited about posting this yummy engagement session since before the session even took place when I was back in Texas not too long ago! This is my sister-in-law, her groom-to-be, and their fur baby Raad. How cute is their little family!? I just love that they included Raad in their engagement photos, but let’s be real…that was to be expected. After all, HE was the one who asked her to marry he and his dad (on a note that was tied to his collar). ;-) Raad is even going to be in the wedding. Just as he should be! I’m so eager to see the three of them get married in November!! As odd as it may seem to some, I refer to their session as yummy for two reasons: 1.) Because the sun light and weather were just about perfection to take beautiful photos. Even for Texas standards! It’s the little things, and another great reason to get even more excited about their session. 2.) Because anyone knows these two, KNOWS they they know a thing or two about really good food. They just happen to be major foodies in Austin, and the Mr-to-be is even a chef at one of the most popular restaurants downtown! Anytime I need a great recommendation in Austin, they are the first people I contact. That leads me to another of the many reasons that I got so excited about their session… they chose to take the second half of their photos in front of the “Butter Half” mural in east Austin! There couldn’t possibly be a more perfect option for these two! We had so much fun during their session. You can tell from a few of the photos below that these two are super silly…lol. What I didn’t expect (or think about) was how great it would be to see how much they both really adored each other. It’s a great feeling to see your family happy in love! I had to include a few photos of her beautiful ring also! Butttt, unlike most couples the groom-to-be has an engagement ring also. A ‘MANgagement’ ring, as they called it. It’s their thing. Maybe it should be A thing…? Either way, I hope you enjoy looking at their photos at least half as much as I enjoyed taking them!Anchorage Professional Photographer - Savvy Images

A Unique Engagement • Houston Engagement Photos

Engagements

It’s been a while since I’ve posted an engagement session, and I would like to believe that this one is definitely WELL worth the wait! I will never forget the day that I received Vanessa’s initial engagement photo session email inquiry… I walked into the other room where my boyfriend (now husband) was sitting and said “You are never going to believe the inquiry I just got.” Of course he was curious, so I proceeded to tell him that someone contact me and wants to do their engagement session ON their wake boarding boat ON Lady Bird Lake in Austin. WHAT in the WORLD?! For those of you that don’t know, motorized boats are not permitted on Lady Bird Lake. In her email she explained that her fiancé was attempting to get special permission from the city to launch their boat their!! They spend most of their free time on their boat, and really wanted to incorporate that into their session. BUT they didn’t want to have their photos taken on any old lake.. They wanted the POP of the beautiful Austin Texas skyline in their photos also! I’ll be honest, initially I thought this session was completely unrealistic, BUT these two definitely proved me wrong! I am SO EXCITED that they did, and even more so that they trusted me to bring their photo vision to life!! They are definitely my dream client to say the least. An incredibly cool couple in love that have a passionate/meaningful vision for beautiful photos AND they’re willing to go to great lengths to make their vision happen! AMAZING. Chris got approval from the city, and the planning began. After launching their boat into the lake he strategically mounted a trolling motor to the back of the boat so he could maneuver the boat around as needed (I just had to include our out-take photos of that below also)! Since there were many potential unknowns that could have come up during their session, I had an assistant there to help out. I shot the first portion of their photos from a dock with my long lens, and then we joined them on the boat to finish up the session. Of course my equipment is fully insured, and OF COURSE it was absolutely worth the risk. Their engagement session was perfection, and I couldn’t be more pleased. Well this weekend these two love birds are getting married, and I’m equally excited to photograph their wedding! My next blog post will be Vanessa’s beautiful bridal photo session that we did last month, so be sure to keep an eye out for that!Savvy Images Destination Engagement Photos

Jessica + Andy = Engaged • Austin Wedding Photographer

Engagements

These two love birds were referred to me by one of my best clients, so I was very eager to meet with them about photographing their engagement photos and upcoming wedding! I knew they had to be fun folks, and I was certainly right. Though I’m sure they would each disagree… they seemed to be completely comfortable with each other in front of the camera, so their engagement session was a breeze to photo. With each of their strong ties to Austin, it was important to them to capture some of the fun, colorful locations that “Keep Austin Weird”. I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome!

Chelsie + Everett = Engaged • Austin Wedding Photographer

Engagements

Chelsie and Everett went to Steiner Ranch Steakhouse for their first date a little over two years ago, and now they’re planning their wedding! And of course we incorporated the special spot into their engagement session (after starting bright and early at a Lake Club nearby). We even had both locations ALL to ourselves! I had a great time getting to know these two love birds, and hearing more about their love story. I’m super excited about photographing their wedding day at Gabriel Springs next March!

Vanessa + Jorge = Engaged • Austin Wedding Photographer

Engagements

These two crack me up! We began their session at Opa!, a cute little wine/coffee house down in south Austin, since these two share a love for wine. I quickly realized that Vanessa and Jorge were super silly, and going to be a fun duo to photograph. Before they became “an item”, while getting to know each other, these two were known to hang out around Town Lake. I was very excited to incorporate that in their session, as well as a fun finale at the colorful Austin Convention Center wall and nearby railroad tracks. Engagement sessions are so much fun! A) because it give me the opportunity to hang out with and get to know my future bride and grooms and B) because my clients are awesome!! I’m looking forward to Vanessa and Jorge’s big day next month!

Joni + Neil = Engaged • Austin Wedding Photographer

Engagements

It’s clear that these two love birds have some major chemistry… Joni and Neil went to Chuy’s on their first date, so we thought that would be a perfect place to start out their engagement session. They were so cute and so much fun to photograph! Just as most true-to-heart Austinites do, they love hiking and hanging out on the Green Belt, so we finished up doing exactly that. We hiked to their favorite tree and it was definitely an incredibly large, impressive one. I love a nice hike, especially when it’s to take great photos!
