Time… oh, the time! It flies by. These colorful bluebonnet photos were taken back in April for my Little Lady’s first birthday. I blinked and I may have taken a few much needed deep breaths. Now she is in ‘school’ and it is finally TIME for Momma to get back to WORK!! Just in TIME to schedule your fall photo sessions! What a magical word…lol. Is there every really a good time for that jazz??

If anyone understands just how busy life gets, it’s yours truly. After all, Scotty’s one year photos were spontaneously taken in a field, on the side of the road headed to spend a long weekend in Austin! It’s a bit embarrassed to admit, other than her cake smash photos and sewing the outfit she wore, there wasn’t much planning involved with her one year photo session. But again, time! Surviving your first year as a parent, you quickly learn to prioritize life and any remaining energy you may have. Thank goodness, everything worked out just perfectly. I could obsess over her chubba thighs and all her many little expressions! With Dad’s help and a minor detour, we were able to capture some beautiful images of our baby girls. These two have a funny little ‘I want to cuddle you – don’t touch me’ relationship. Haha, but of course we had to include her fur sister, Reis also!

Time is an incredibly precious commodity. The good news is, scheduling a photo session with Savvy Images is pretty darn easy! A Homemade Cake Smash

Not long ago, we hit the BIG one year milestone and (of course) we celebrated by doing a super cute CAKE SMASH session! These sessions are rarely what Mom’s expect them to be. You never really know how your Little is going to react to the yummy, yet messiness of cake! Most babes are quiet shy tearing into their cakes and usually need a little help doing so from mom or dad. Every once in a while I come across one who tears into it with no shame! Scotty was somewhere in-between. At first she was way more interested in picking off and playing with the blue berries. With Dad’s guidance, she took a few bites, but decided she’d rather play the drums on her cake for a while. Haha. She shared a bit of her mess with her fur-sister, Reis (we allowed her to for a hot second). She checked out the flower cake topper, took a few more bites, then was over it. Knowing these sessions rarely happen as you’d like them to, I had zero expectations, and was very pleased by the curiosity and cuteness we captured.

I didn’t want her to have boatloads of sugar and get a tummy ache, so I decided to experiment with a little baking! When I say ‘experiment’, I am way serious. I don’t bake. Ever. My husband actually tried to talk me out of it. BUT (insert very proud Momma vibes here), I did, and we were ALL pleasantly surprised by the outcome! After scouring the internet, getting input from friends who had done the same, and consulting with my mother-in-law (who bakes often), I decided to try Fit Momma Real Food‘s No Sugar Banana Cake. You can find her recipe >>here<<. I really wanted a coral cake, so I used beet and orange peel juice to dye the cream cheese icing and whalaaa!! We had ourselves a sugar free, corn free, coral cake smash cake! Dad and I loved it so much, that we had no problem finishing up what she didn't finish! We even used the same cake for her actual first birthday party. I debated making cup cakes for her party guests, but quickly realized how many other party related items I still had to conquer by the weekend. Maybe next year!? I am now the proud owner of an active little one year old!! Haha. It still sounds so weird to say! Things have been a bit quiet over here on the Savvy Images blog, so I wanted to share a quick personal post. From a feisty newborn, to a gassy baby, to a spunky toddler, this is my inquisitive little lady, Scotty! Of course I had to take the obligatory monthly sticker photos. ;-) We got lucky with the making of this little human… as long as she’s not tired or hungry, she is one happy girl. Though there were usually plenty of cute smiles, I did my best to capture all of her many little expressions each month. Seriously, take a look at what a good majority of month two looked like! Ahhhhh. Soooo cute, but I’m soooo glad that’s behind us! What an incredible year it has been! Each month I also tried to used different headbands, onesies, blankets and toys that were gifted to her from family and friends for an added personal touch. As you can see, when she started teething around 5 months, she spent a good amount of time with her little natural rubber teether, so I decided it was only appropriate to include it in our photo. The same with her fur sister Reis, who insisted on half-heartedly participating in her monthly photo sessions. We had to include her also!

Can we talk about how difficult it was to actually TAKE these photos each month?! There were many times when I had to FORCE myself to make it happen. Many of them are not up to my ‘professional’ standards, but regardless, I’m so glad to have them. She finally figured out the whole sticker deal. (as if…Mom!) Good thing there aren’t any more, because even with Dad’s help, it was difficult enough keeping the last one on her for a hot minute. I had all these photos displayed together at her birthday party a few weeks ago and it made me SO very happy. Not only did we all survive the first year, but my little nugget has truly flourished. A HUGE accomplishment in my book. Being a new mom, there are SO many overwhelming things going on in life. Mainly trying to have a life, and trying discovering your “new normal” in life! HA. Of the MANY things I’ve learned, prioritizing my time is near the top of that list. There are many gorgeous sessions I’m dying to share with you guys (and will soon). In the meantime, I can’t resist passing up a chance to capture more beautiful memories for my awesome clients AND spend as much time as possible with this little Chunka-Lova. She’s growing and changing so quickly, right in front of my eyes!

When Emery was ONE

Earlier this week baby Karson was featured on the Savvy Images blog, soooo I couldn’t resist showing off his big sister Emery’s one year photo session also! Even though her photos were taken WAY back in July of 2013, and she’s all big and grown up now. Just like her photos, Emery is FULL of fun and crammed packed with a BIG sassy little personality! Don’t let her beautiful baby blues fool you, she tore into her cute little birthday cake like nobody’s business. Out of all of my cake smash babies, I would venture to say that she conquered her cake like a champ (the key detail being > ALL on her own). Normally babies are a bit unsure of what to do and need a bit of guidance, but not this little beauty! First time eating cake… “I’ve got this Mom!” One year photo sessions are always so much fun. It’s like a mini explosion of a little personality. I absolutely love Working with families to customize a session based completely on their little Loves unique personality! I know mom will get a kick out of looking back at these photos several years later. It’s truly mind boggling how quickly babes turn into little kiddos right before your eyes!

How blessed is this precious family to be celebrating an entire year filled with Baby Karson cuteness!? His little heartbreaker eyes and pout are beyond adorable! And I can’t even handle just how much his big sister loves him. Seriously. Heart. Melting. Mom was inspired to have his one year photo session, a la natural, out in the great outdoors. When I discovered all the many cool features at the location she had in mind, I got giddy excited about taking their photos there. WG Jones State Forest worked out fantastic and a fun fact related to its name, is that Karson’s grandpa is the incredibly talented and late George Jones! Double meaning and even more variety, makes it a win for all!! I had to capture the crane by the lake and the ducks bathing themselves, right before we got started. The huge logs and little stumps made for perfect photo props, and all the many little pine cones were the perfect accent! Towards the end of his session, little Karson had enough. He was tired and cold and over it. Seeing his big sister comfort him was something I will never forget. So much love! I’m so glad I had the opportunity to capture all the cuteness for mom and dad to look back on in many years. Those two, they make beautiful babies! But lets be real. I am the one who is really blessed here. This was my second time working with this fun family. Loyal clients are my absolute favorite! A Cozy Sibling Session

I was pumped when these little one’s lovely momma contacted me about a sibling session, and four month photos of her newest cute addition! She contacted me monthsss in advance and knew exactly what she was looking for. I like it… She was a woman on a mission to find a great photographer in Anchorage, because their long time family photographer had recently moved out of state. She liked my photography style, and I knew her kiddos would be fun, and oh so precious to photograph… I was confident that it would be a win for everyone! ;-) It was incredibly chilly outside, so we all gladly opted for some cozy, fun photos in doors. We were successful in getting several great photos of her littlest man, that were similar to his sister and brothers four month photos. I love that what she did for her first, she committed to also doing for all her other little loves. And of course we had to get some photos of all of them together! Now THAT was a challenge plus three! Going into a session with kiddos of their age, is always a bit of a gamble… and then when there are FOUR kiddos their age, oohhhhhh Lordy! We were patient, we were persistent, and all was a tad bit chaotic, BUT we succeeded!! With the help of Dad’s silly faces, jelly beans, and an impromptu Batman costume change, we managed to capture lots of major cuteness. Including a few sneaky shots of mom hanging with her munchkins! Isn’t that what life is all about!? Because they’re completely in their comfort zone, and we did the session (mostly) on their terms, you can truly see all of their little personalities come to life in their photos. We got what we needed, and let the rest of their sibling session just fall into place. Just.as.it.should. I just love sessions like this, and am so excited to finally debut their photos! Mom wanted to make sure she got all of her Christmas cards and photo gifts out before any of their family and friends saw them online. What a lovely AND patient momma these kiddos have. Not only did she complete the photo collage of her four month old youngin’s, she now also has a gorgeous gallery wrapped canvas of them ALL together to proudly display in their beautiful home!

2014 Winter Recap & New Year Special

As the new year slowly starts to sink in, there’s one thing we can be sure about here in Anchorage… winter has definitely been a warm one! Literally, one for the record books! According to National Weather Service records, 2014 was the first year EVER recorded where the temperature NEVER dipped below zero here in south central Alaska. You may possibly recall the chaos from rescheduling our Winter Mini Sessions NUMEROUS times!? Well, good news… we FINALLY got them all taken care of, and I couldn’t be more excited to share a few of these fun families photos with you! I’ve said it a gazillion times, but I really am BEYOND grateful for such cool and understanding clients! We only ended up doing one of the sessions in the Savvy Images studio to meet that momma’s photo timeline, and even their photos turned out super cute. Once it did eventually snow a bit more, we were able to get everyone else’s done also. Most of my mini session families were repeat clients, and I’m beyond grateful for that. Being able to see and capture all my little one’s fun personalities over time is such is truly a HUGE blessing. Especially now with their families in this incredibly picturesque spot. Finding this gorgeous location was definitely challenging because of our major LACK of snow, but it was worth the search. It worked out wonderfully and I absolutely LOVE everything about it. It was just the winter Alaskan feel that we were all keeping our fingers and toes crossed for!! Because of the crunched timeline of these sessions, I sped the production up to get everything back to them as quickly as possible for the holidays. Once all was said and done, their photos turned out STUNNING. The best news is that they all have prints, canvases or mini albums to cherish until the end of time! ;-) And of course I had to include a few of the beautiful photos of my lovely assistant. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have a little photo fun for ourselves!

Savvy Images One Year Cake Smash Photos Featured

A Colorful Cake Smash

According to his mom, this cute little ham woke up from his nap with his grumpy-pants on, the day we did his colorful cake smash session. We know…being a one year old is tough stuff, but someone has to do it! He really made us work for the precious photos, it was absolutely worth it. We were able to capture his long little eyelashes, baby blue eyes, two munchkin teeth, and even his cute little chubster rolls! Between the cake and lots of silliness (thanks to mom and dad), we were able to pry some precious smiles out of him. It actually worked out perfectly, because all his dramatic little personalities came out in a matter of no time. The emotional progression in his photos is the best!! Curious, mesmerized, thrilled, content, over it, then finally PISSED. All the while, capturing his cute little details and expressions! He was a baby on a mission… after sampling the cake, he went for the candle, and after he’d had enough, he knocked the whole cake over. Such a dramatic little mister. He showed us! ;-) “Mom.. Dad.. No more of this cake smash madness. Puleaseee.” After seeing his big little crocodile tears, we decided it was time to clean up! Mom came to the rescue, and all was good with the world. These photos will be the perfect addition to the decor at his graduation party several years down the road.

These cute twins have EXCITING news!

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing these cute twins when they were in their momma’s belly a little over two years ago back in Austin, and again for their newborn photo session shortly after that. And I’m BEYOND grateful that I am able to occasionally travel back to Texas to continue photographing old & faithful clients, because I had the opportunity to photo their cute little family AGAIN in The Woodlands last month for their second birthdays! Their photo session followed a nice Texas downpour, and was appropriately filled with lots of chaos. We took some traditional family photos, some cute two year milestone photos, and even finished up with a super cute Micky & Minnie Mouse themed cake smash! They were not a fan of walking on the wet ground, but quickly changed their focus to the important stuff…CAKE. They were so sweet to even feed each other! They didn’t get too messy, but just in case, both sets of grandparents were there on hand to help out. What THEY didn’t know, was that they were actually there to get some REALLY exciting news from Dylan and Drake! You can tell from the photos below, that the twins are clearly not excited about the big news! >>insert temper tantrum here<< LOL, their surprised grandparents certainly were, and I have no doubt the twins warm up to the idea eventually. Mom was a tad bit frustrated that they didn’t cooperate and sharing the exciting news as she had planned (just as I would have been also), but it’s clear that everything worked out great!! Their change of plans included MAJOR cuteness!! They definitely did a great job communicated the news AND exactly how they felt about having to share mom and dad’s attention with a new little addition soon. ;-P I can’t wait to photograph them again once their growing family becomes a cute fam of FIVE. Can you imagine how funny it will be to pull out their beautiful session album to show these photos to them in twenty years!? Absolutely.Pricesless.Perfection.

Mommy & Me Mini Sessions

I just had to take time out of my weekend to share some of our Mommy and Me Mini Sessions with you guys! Only being our second series of Mini Sessions, I’m very proud of the turn out! Our first were the Spring Mini Sessions, and you can see some of those photos by clicking this link. I wanted to do something a little something different for the Mommy & Me Mini Sessions, and since the weather was SO nice, I really wanted to do them outdoors! Not knowing exactly what Mother Nature was going to present to us that day, I was grateful that all the Moms were flexible getting last minute instruction on the session location! I did have my heart set on a location right near the Savvy Images studio, but it ended up being WAY too damp there. I didn’t want all the little one’s leaving covered in mud! After finding the perfect location a little further away, we were good to go! Since the sunlight is even more unpredictable than the weather, I wanted to have a back up plan for that also. So I chose to use a cream colored canopy hanging from a tree as the background. It was the perfect touch of feminine to the Alaskan wilderness, AND it actually even served a purpose! Since the sun was beating down bright, the canopy worked perfectly to shield everyone from the super harsh sun during their mini session! And I can’t say enough about all the little CUTIES!! From serious stares, to shy smiles, to super outgoing giggles… I’m so glad that there was all age ranges and cuteness. Luckily all their momma’s have really great style, because all of their outfits were incredibly precious also!! I’m always SO impressed by my Savvy Moms!! I think they’re pretty amazing for SO many different reasons. Since we ALL know that they are always the person taking photos of their little one’s, it makes me VERY happy to know that they also have great photos WITH their little one’s now! Not only will they get beautiful prints from this session, but they even have an extra special surprise headed their way with those! I always like to make sure my Mini Clients get cute little gifts, but this group has been extremely patient while I perfected their beautiful photos. I’m telling you, they’re the best!!

This blog post is a compilation of photos that I have taken of the Anderson Family over the last year and a half, beginning with wonderful news of Baby #2 during an Announcement Mini Session!! You have probably seen some of these photos on past blogs or sneak peeks, but I thought it was really important to actually show their journey collectively. I am very fortunate because this hot momma happens to be one of my very best friends. Not only does she have a beautiful growing family that is a blast to photograph, but she also truly cherishes having beautiful photos. WIN-WIN. I’m incredibly grateful that she has helped to support the growth of Savvy Images over the last several years (another major WIN)! She and her husband are small business owners themselves, so they fully understand the struggles involved with growing and maintaining a reputable company these days.

In the recent past I’ve gotten questions from aspiring/amateur photographers about taking photos for family and friends. I figured out fast that could be VERY tricky! I would absolutely LOVE to take beautiful photos of all of my loved ones at no charge, but if I did, I would quickly go broke! When I established Savvy Images, I decided that I would have a set rate (and expectations) for my family and and any close friends that wanted me to take photos for them. It prevented any potential miscommunications, and set our photo experience up for success! It’s safe to say that anyone would like great photos for free, but I felt that if they truly valued my hard work and photography, that they would be willing to pay a fair price for it. It helps to ensure that I never feel like I’m being taken advantage of (not they ever would intentionally do so), and no wheeling & dealing is ever necessary to cause any potential awkwardness between us. After all, photography IS my career. My clients reactions to their photographs is INcredibly rewarding to me, but unfortunately my bills are not going to pay themselves! Dang it..Haha! I honestly feel that one of the reasons that Savvy Images has been so successful is because my family and friends were completely on board with my thinking on this, and continued to support my vision and hard work over the past several years. What can I say… they truly are AWESOME!!

Savvy Images Pregnancy Announcement Photo session

[pinit]^^ I believe someone was a little unsure about being a big brother at this point! ^^

[pinit]But HERE someone is just THRILLED that he’s getting a brand new baby sister! Momma’s belly has definitely grown quiet a bit since their last session!

[pinit]When mom and dad aren’t hard at work, their family spends most of their free time on the lake, so it was clear that this was the perfect spot for their Maternity Photo Session.

[pinit]Such a stunning sunset and sweet moments to capture! That final photo was THE shot that I had my mind on during their session. Dad definitely got a workout, and little man had a BLAST.

[pinit]Baby Faith was born in November, and I just love the festive holiday family photos!

[pinit]Seriously, LOOK at those sweet cheeks and that precious little pout!!

I absolutely ADORE precious little brand new baby details in black and white.

[pinit]Mom thought it would be cool to use her wedding dress in their Newborn Photo Session somehow, and I couldn’t have agreed more. I just love when my clients incorporate items that are really meaningful to them into their session. It really adds a priceless element to their photos, and makes them even more unique!

Even though Great-Grandma resisted because she wasn’t prepared to take photos, she joined in on some of Faith’s Three Month mini session photos. In twenty years these little ones (all grown up) won’t be looking at what Mimaw was wearing or that the background isn’t completely perfect (I could NOT resist including the one of her laughing with her Mimaw)! What they’ll notice is how sweet and AWESOME Mimaw was for being there and taking such good care of them when they were little.

[pinit]For Faith’s One Year photo session, we thought it would be fun to incorporate lots of balloons! Luckily she agreed, and had SO much fun playing peek-a-boo with them!

[pinit]We certainly couldn’t leave her big brother Braxton out of all the balloon fun!

I must admit that their latest session is my absolute favorite. Not only because the personalities of their two little cuties have developed into utter cuteness, but because it was actually an ANNOUNCEMENT session also. They will be welcoming a THIRD bundle of precious goodness to their family in May!! That is some serious fun all around, and I’m already beyond eager to do their next family photo session!!

Photographing this baby girl over the last year has been so much fun! Sassy ~ Sassy ~ Sassy!! I called it the first time I met her during her newborn session, and then shortly after that she made it even more apparent during her six month photo session. I’m so glad that I was right, because capturing all that sass in her photos is an absolute blast! Her mom wanted to do Ayden’s one year session at their brand new home, so it was the perfect opportunity to take some really fun photos where they get to hang out everyday. BUT, it’s not every day that you get to take photos with balloons in your bed, and smashing cake on mom’s nice marble kitchen counter! Just LOOK at those cute little pony tails!! In a dozen years or so, mom and dad will need to look back on her all her cute photos to remind themselves what a sweet little bundle of joy she was. I have a sneaking suspicion that Ayden will definitely keep them on their toes for years to come, and I look forward to capturing many more of their fun moments along the way.
